I am sorry to hear of your Husband passing. He deserved nothing less than this tune as your family pay respects to him.

My Dad was RN. Also played at his funeral. Moves me to tears as it evokes memories of waiting at the main gates of HMS Ganges for my Dad. We would walk home together and if we heard Sunset, he would turn and salute until Sunset had finished. I am having it played at my funeral. I am an ex Army man but I prefer this to the Last Post.

Me too. And when I tell people that within a couple of generations relatively few Britons will be moved by this music or be proud of our history, they think I'm running the country down instead of just stating the way things are.

This always makes me a little emotional. I remember standing guard (with arms reversed) on a cenotaph as a cadet one Armistice Day many many years ago. They started to play the Last Post as the sparrows chirped in the trees and a little light wind blew under a blue sky. It was a very moving moment and I freely admit that for that moment I was on the edge of tears.

BFBS radio - in Germany at least - used to play it, indeed at the end of the day; seguing into the last post, and then the national anthem.

Played this once for a Lieutenant Governor's reception where the ship was alongside a long building with metal siding - the acoustics were incredible as the sound reverberated back and forth. I wonder how long it would take me to get back in practice to try it again.
