My parents took us on a mystery flight in 1977 or 1978 out of Sydney and we went to Maroochydore for an hour or so while the plane refuelled. It was a Fokker Friendship, and also my first flight. I was only five or six at the time, but I clearly remember taxiing up to the terminal, which was little more than a shed at the time. There were local kids smiling and waving at the plane, and they were sitting on a white painted timber fence. When I saw this video, I immediately played it to see if there was any vintage footage. Lo and behold, at the 1:44 mark, there was the very same fence that I remember, and this footage would have been around that time. Thanks for the video!

The biggest thing that was overlooked in my opinion with the new runway was there is still no ILS (instrument landing system) fitted and we still have the same problem as we had with the old 36/18 runway and that is as soon as there is the slightest bit of bad weather the plane can't land and circle around for 45 min before diverting to Brisbane. I really don't understand why ILS was never fitted to the new Runway.

I’ve never been to this place even though I’ve lived in the sunny coast for my whole life but I’ve plane spotted from mount Coolum and it was so cool I also uploaded it on my channel if you want to watch it

An interesting history of Sunshine Coast Airport, but may I offer one correction. You mentioned that they changed the IATA code (3 letters) of the Airport when in fact the IATA code was and still is MCY. The ICAO code (4 letters) was the one that changed. Basically the IATA code is the reservations & 'public use' one, ICAO is the operational & Governmental one.

Well, If GoldCosast Airport survived Brisbane so can Sunshine Coast with same benefits. The region does need a lift up. Hotels are aging .

Definitely needs to go international, now that they built the runway to suit larger planes. Driving an hour south is a pain.
