I learned to embroider and cross stitch from my Grandma Georgia when I was ten in 1975. For many years I only stitched on occasion, but in 1982/83 my Grandma got sick. I started staying with her after school/all night so my parents wouldn't worry about her (my senior year of high school) I started cross stitching again so I had something to do when she slept.

What a relaxing night stitching and watching the three of you. It went too fast!!! Loved all the stitching, congrats to Deb on her finishes!!! I started losing my hearing in my 40s. Luckily I could read lips and was able to get by. Lost my job, found out state would help with free hearing aids to get back to work. So lucky I got them and WOW, what a difference. Glasses - got mine in kindergarten and unfortunately made in fun of because of that and my lazy eye. Listening to Shelia talk you’d think it was me too!!!

Shared experiences with seeing and hearing! The world is a very noisy place and I still only wear my hearing aid when out of the house.

OMG, I’d like to thank you Ladies. I was reading the news and was able to understand this sentence: “Digitally altered photos. It’s no secret that many people turn to filters, AI, and other editing tools to zhuzh up their images” When I read the term “zhuzh up” I immediately remembered EJ 😂😂😂😂 English is not my mother language so, regardless the amazing stitching show I learn a lot with you, Xoxo. Happy Stitching. Miriam

Firstly, I would have NEVER thought Shelia or Deb were 69!! I wanna grow up to be like you ladies!!!! The sight/hearing discussion was so familiar. I remember doing those tests in school and ending up at the eye doctor for glasses. My mom refers to that time in my life as when she realized she was never gonna be mother of the year. The day I walked out of the doctor’s office with glasses on for the first time, I exclaimed “I can see the leaves on the trees!” They were green blobs before then…which of course made her feel bad. But the icing on the cake was that evening riding in the car. At some point I mentioned the stars really do twinkle…she often tells people that’s when she knew for sure….no mother of the year would ever come here way!!! ❤❤😂😂

What a fun video! It is always nice to see Deb and see her progress on her projects! The Chatalane (sp?) and that long band sampler are amazing! So much stitching!! I enjoyed the vocabulary lesson and also the figure on the Capitol. I think I started cross-stitching in 1980 making Christmas ornaments on 22 count! Unfortunately life happened and I didn’t stitch much at all until retirement and the Pandemic in 2020. Things are so much different now than when I started. I feel for you Shelia, I had eye surgery as a baby and had my first pair of bifocal glasses at the age of 2! I had cataract surgery last August and had hoped not to need glasses for the first time in my life, but unfortunately I still have to wear them. Doesn’t bother me now, but hated them when I was a kid! Sometimes I have to count to figure out how old I am-I am climbing the hill to get to 69 in September! Have a great week!

It's a struggle for sure as we get older...but at least we are here. Hopefully, your eyesight is better after the cataract surgery even if you still have to wear glasses.

So many pretty Quakers! Deb - Winter and Shelia - Autumn! I think the kreinik on the Serenitea is to make it look like an old vintage porcelain tea cup with the gold edging? So, do we have a new drinking buzzword? Is it Temperature or the Temperature Butterfly project that EJ is doing? OMG - Three Little Kittens by Ink Circles looks SO AMAZING on my tv! Love the coloring!

I got a beaded kit and the thread that came with the kit keep knotting up and snapping off. Any suggestions ? U ladies r talented. Ur work is stunning. Happy stitching 🪡❤️

I do use a similar floss color to the bead. I use two strands…maybe that makes for a stronger anchor. There are other alternatives.

Some folks use a Sulky metallic. I use Nymo, which comes in a variety of colors. Use a short length (about 6-8 inches).

Shelia, why did you use the Victoria Model Threads conversion for the Autumn Quakers? Was it just because you already had them on hand? I ask because I haven't splurged on threads for my seasonal quakers patterns yet. Plus, I've only been a DMC user so far so am unfamiliar with all the fancy brands out there.
@SunshineStitchers
@SunshineStitchers 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I have a TON of VMS threads and decided to buy the Valdani. My conversion is pretty close. If you use the Valdani, get the recommended size fabric. You use the Valdani "as is" (no splitting the strands). It will be hard to use on a higher count. I buy a lot of floss because I like the colors, then decide on conversions as I go along. I was in the VMS club for about 3 years and accumulated a sizeable stash. Rosewood Manor uses a wide variety of threads and her charts are great opportunities to try new ones.
