SUP Fishing With A Push Pole On L2Fish Board [Cool Sight Fishing Footage]

SUP fishing has quickly become one of my favorite ways to fish because it enables me to quietly move across the water similar to a kayak while having a much higher line of sight which allows for much better visibility in the water.
So for anglers like me who enjoy sight fishing, the stand up paddle board (SUP) is one heck of a tool.
And this recent trip took it to a whole new level when testing out the inclusion of the push pole as well as the casting platform from my boat.
Because the casting platform gave me an additional 14 inches of vertical line of height, while the push pole allowed me to easily and quietly move myself around the flat to sneak up on unsuspecting fish.
Best of all, the push pole acts as a big rudder allowing for a much more controlled drift when letting the wind move me down the flat.
In this first SUP fishing trip I did with the push pole, I saw 30 to 40 fish (reds, snook, and trout). And that was a spot that I've only been to once before... so I can't wait to take it to some of my favorite spots.
If you'd like to see exactly where I was fishing, join our Insider membership because I show the exact spots that I see fish each week so that you can know exactly which areas to look for when you get out on the water.

That's an awesome video! Really good footage. I've found that if you can get between the sun and the fish they don't spook as easily. Fish can't look into the sun and see very well so they don't look that way as often.

I have the same cooler and use it as elevated platform the stand on and pole from I carry my cooler with the poles facing front and back instead of side to side it gives me an narrower profile to pole and cast round. I've built an 8 foot push pull that's a shallow water anchor also. Have a short video up on my channel. Dig the less is more for fishing. Find my self loading a sup on the boat run to a spot, anchor the boat and taking off on the sup into the skinny. It forces you to slow down and fish areas a little harder knowing you can't turn the trolling motor on or fire the boat up and blast out to a new spot.thanks for the video

Hey Luke, have you ever tried putting a Costa lense in front of your camera so we can see through the water? Not sure if it would work but itd be worth a shot

I've recently subscribed and have been watching your videos. I have a question about the L2Fish board you have. Is the size comparable to other flat boards and is it easy to do recreational paddling. I love the deck area and stability and it's advertised to be fast. Just curious if it's as maneuverable as other flat boards. I live in Clearwater and like the idea of buying a locally made board. Thanks

Lawren Downing I got a live2fish and love it... I take my dog with me and it maneuvers pretty good...(I don't really need to turn to fast at these speeds) lol it's a great board.

Luke, AWESOME footage! Immediately made me break out my L2fish for this weekend. Can you tell me where you got the platform, and did it make a difference in visibility, is it more stable than standing on a yeti? Keep up the great work.... Love your videos man!
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
That platform came with the used boat that I bought a while back, so I'm not sure where it originally came from. Yes, the added made a significant difference in visibility. As for stability, the platform would have no advantage over any other item like a cooler that have similar points of contact with the boat (the wider the points of contact, the more stable it'll be). Best of luck out on the water!

Just picked up an L2Fish recently. Love it so far. Do you usually go out without fins? The 9" ones they give you are a little overkill and prevent you from getting too shallow. I was thinking about picking up some Bonefish Hippies fins. I went out once in some windy conditions without the fins and it was tough sledding.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
I have the bonefish hippies on mine and they work pretty good... actually, I just have one hippie fin on now because I somehow lost a screw to one of them and haven't had time to pick up a new one (I actually like how it handles best with just the one fin because it tracks well while still being able to turn sharply when needed).

Great video. What length push pole is that? Were you happy with it or would you recommend longer or shorter?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 5 жыл бұрын
It is a 23" push pole that I have for my boat. It's def longer than needed for a SUP. But it is nice to be able to cover a lot of ground with less movement. The only con is that it's tough to travel with.

@Salt Strong, would you think a 6-12 foot or a 9-17 foot extendable push pole such as the super stick would work well for a paddle board in shallow waters? I’m considering using an iSUP to mothership to shallow ponds in the Louisiana marsh and would like to find something that is portable. Would think the push pole would allow for covering more water in a shorter time frame with less fatigue than paddling. Your thoughts?

Which do you prefer, the E6X inshore or TFO rod you've recommended?
@Saltstrong

I need to spend more time with the E6X to know for sure. One thing I do really like about the E6X is that it's made in the USA which is unfortunately rare for fishing rods.
