Lol, I could not agree with you more - it is mostly straightforward if you have an ounce of patience. The issue I see is that normies are laughably impatient when it comes to computer technology and refuse to put in any effort to learn whatsoever, which creates this artificial barrier-to-entry, hence the superiority complex of arch users. Also, I used to dual-boot with windoze for games, but about 6 months ago I just decided that if a game doesn't work on linux natively (or w/ wine or proton) I just would refuse to play the game. I really only play Minecraft anyway which works flawlessly - about 2x the all-around performance from Win10...

In my opinion, one of the reasons arch is so good is because of the documentation. I first started using Arch around 2005. It was one hell of a learning experience. To date, I've tried so many distros and was dissatisfied with all of them. I'd rather have to CLI install Arch than use any other distro. PS: the method in video to enter boot menu is the right one. 60% of the time, it works every time.

Touche. It's time well-spent imo. I eventually want to replace my waybar setup with some kind of custom ewww bar and use rsync or something to sync files across all my devices, etc. In due time I guess...

ik lol. I do actually like most of the features post 1.7.3 but I agree that it is not the truly based classic minecraft experience... Honestly though after 1.17/1.18 things have gotten perhaps a little too crazy even for me.

i like the 1.20 world gen. Also its sort of baffling that in a decade there is essentially no good FOSS reimplementation of beta 1.7.3, despite the protocol being documented and the game literally being able to be decompiled. eventually I might have a try at making one. @@RustyBucketz30

It won't reinstall. I run my scripts after choosing the "minimal" install option on hyprland so if you chose the hyprland desktop option and manually installed all the software you like, my scripts won't reinstall everything from scratch - it should skip all the packages that are already installed on your system - no harm done. The only thing I might mention is that the hyprland desktop config comes with a different terminal I believe - kitty instead of alacritty, which is fine if you prefer kitty, but if you want my terminal setup you'll have to uninstall kitty and make sure the default terminal is alacritty instead, there is liekly a few tweaks to which CSS file it defaults too as well..but tinker around with things and I am hopeful you can figure it out. There may be more stuff I am missing but perhaps that get you going in the right direction? Glad to help more if you get stuck somewhere - its a learning process anyway. :)

dwm is tight. I've been quite pleased with Wayland though

Yup! Where there is a will there’s a way. If you clone my dotfiles and get it all installed you’ll have to edit the config file to be “top” instead of left and then you’ll probably have to mess with the style.css file until you’re happy with the rest of it. It might be easier to start with someone else’s installation scripts, mine suck lol. But it’s definitely possible.

Yes, still on wayland and haven't had any problems with my NVIDIA card. It's a 1660Ti so not very new though... your mileage may vary

@@RustyBucketz30 do you think I could daily drive hyprland with an 1060? I’m currently using qtile and I have no issues whatsoever, but I prefer hyprland and I’m not willing to buy a new gpu anytime soon

@@twachl8039 Oh yeah. Definitely. Performance-wise it will probably be very similar to qtile. It may be slightly less stable but reboots solve 99% of any problems I have daily driving hyprland.

No problem. That is very likely just one of the stylesheets that isn't loaded into the cache inside the wal/templates/ directory. Try rebooting first, then making sure that directory and stylesheet populates. If it doesn't, you can create it and copy over the styles from the styles.css stylesheet in the dotfiles. Alternatively, you can just comment out line 73 and see if everything looks okay without it. Sometimes it can load the correct styles just from the /.cache directory

Only do if you want a on/off project lol. Will teach you a _whole_ lot about how an operating system works though. Especially if you peak into the sources of the packages that you are building.

Indeed. To be human is to be hypocritical... i do have rebuttals though: Fair points on all the GUI stuff but I have a graphics card for a reason and terminal games are just not fun. Minecraft does actually have a little mini terminal in the game which most others don't have, so I give it a pass on GUIs. Most of the reason proprietary software is so bad is b/c of telemetry, weak security and horrible interoperability for programmers - all of which Minecraft either doesn't do or is known for being good at. Minecraft is heavily extendible with an open API (I'd argue no game has a bigger modding community). Minecraft can be run locally, airgapped from all networks and doesn't ship GB of my data to M$ - you can play a local game and boot up Wireshark to prove this. It tries to send a M$ auth token but that fails off network and will still let you play the game with no penalty. I will say that M$ ruined Mojang's playing nice with 3rd party auth providers and makes syncing with their servers a preqrequisite for skins, etc which is super gay and I've been pissed off about that before but until they start exfiltrating all my data or showing me ads, I'll live with shitty auth interoperability. I hate saying its a lesser of evils because I agree, exceptions in a case like this are hypocritical and bad. But for better or worse, I see the proprietary concerns of MC to be mostly benign compared to propreitary business/professional/productivty software that is mfing dumpster fire... This adequate justification? - I've considered my hypocrisy on this deeply lol

@@RustyBucketz30 I agree with your point though. If you happen to want to play multiplayer, you do have to give away telemetry to Microsoft, and login with a Microsoft account. However, if we were to only use open-source software ever, we couldn't load up a webpage, use a bank, use the Linux kernel (because of proprietary microcode) or even GPUs, boards and processors. So yeah, gotta make some tradeoffs here and there.

It ain't much but it's an honest machine... i5 9400 Intel processor(6 core), 1660Ti NVIDIA graphics card, 16GB DDR4 RAM (Crucial), the rest is standard stuff, nothing noteworthy, just minimal compatibility.

Pretty decent, honestly. I like playing with minimal installs on old and slow hardware. I recently set up Debian 12 with XFCE on a ThinkPad T42 from 2003. Single-core Pentium M, half a gig of DDR1 RAM, and a 40GB IDE platter. Had to get rid of Pulseaudio to make it happy and light. Ordered some parts with Firefox ESR and lost fanspin the next morning. Still got my parts though@@RustyBucketz30
