This is a playthrough of Super Chase - Criminal Termination.
The third in the series of Chase H.Q. arcade games by Taito.
I am playing it using the emulator MAME+.
This is the first time I've played this since the arcades; the controls are very twitchy and the roads are very narrow at times making this a very coin hungry arcade game.
Also, I'm not really that good yet, a little more practice is needed.
The final stage is really tough with lots of obstacles.
The game feels very familiar to RadMobile so I'm guessing it may be using the same engine?

Yup, we totally have mountains and cliffsides in New Orleans. Taito, you guys should've sent someone to check the land out before making the game, like the true story of New Zealand Story. ;-)

The sound (music, FX, vocals) in this game is fantastic for the time. The Ensoniq sound chip is put to good use. I wonder how much memory all that high quality audio took up!

This could have been extended with these levels: Tallahassee, Florida (Punks engaging in a street race showing disregard for public safety) Richmond, Virginia (Weapons deal and the ringleader drives away in a truck) St. Louis, Missouri (Prison bus hijack)

Wow never knew there was a number 3. See they returned to the Porsche 928 also (although now in red). Chase HQ 2 was a Nissan 300ZX.

It's a great series :-) I remember seeing a real Nissan 300ZX back then and immediately associatiing it with SCI ;-)

@@digituba I've owned a 300zx twin turbo but not because of the game. I forgot it was featured until we were discussing in on the Z forums. I own a Porsche now but not a 928. A 987 Cayman S instead so I don't think I'll go smashing into crims with it lol

This game had to be the most aggressive cash grab in arcade history. You'd die 2x before you even saw the enemy car.

Looks like a credit muncher as the time limit they give you is way to stingy than the first one. The third level is obvious a tribute to the Laserdisc and Sega CD game Road Avenger/Road Blaster. From the biker sounding horn to the punk standing on your hood hitting your car come straight out of that QT game. :D

***** Really liked the Mega CD version due to the "Cheezsome" Rock n Roll intro song :D although Laser Disc and the Playstation release had better and "cleaner" graphic.

Yeah, it's very much designed to eat coins ;-) I played through Toki a while back, that doesn't let you continue on the last stage, if you die you have to start from the beginning of the game :-O

The music and some enemy cars looks similar to the SNES Chase HQ game and just like the first Chase HQ, the final enemy car is the same as yours but in a different colour, even though it is classified as “unknown”

did the final bad guy get taken out by a random car? that's what i looked like at the end. you crashed and the target car still had one hit left and a car hit it and you were nowhere near it.

I played this arcade game in early 1999. I found only two things to be amusing: the hood flying off the car, and the front windshield shattering. The overall settings could have been better. I would also skip Nancy's voice and just get to the game.

As much as I think this is great, I think the sprite scaling is a bit much and in fact the graphics (not talking about smooth gameplay though) of some ChasHQ games, such as for the Amiga, were easier to see what was going on and less nauseating because they were clearer on account of the fact they were bland.

I think it was that period where there were a lot of sprite scaling games, most were crazy with so much going on like Jurassic Park, but I do like that they tried loads of crazy stuff with them :-D

Watching this made me wonder if the player is crashing on purpose. Too many head on collisions to count. Seems after a while one would learn the patterns.

Hi, yes I'm not the best at this game 😅 I was playing with a wheel and I could have spent longer adjusting the sensitivity with MAME to give myself a change. Although the game is designed to munch money and some of the roads are intentionally narrow; I guess you could memorise some of the oncoming car patterns and perfect it. You'll probably notice I play reasonably well to begin with, this is most likely how far I used to get in the arcades with only a few credits 😊

I'm still looking for that jaw of mine I dropped the first time I have seen VR in motion. :) The guy who played it was more excited about changing views back and forth than racing.

ha ha ;-) I once played it at an arcade and the volume had been turned all the way up (the speakers were right next to your ears), I didn't realise until I pressed start, but I wanted to play it so much; my ears were ringing for days :-P

Yeah, I did find it pretty tough, most arcade games are designed to munch money, but I guess if you play it through many times over you might be able to master it 🤔

Hated this game! Very cheap tricks, it is almost unplayable!! The only arcade game where the console port is much better.

The later stages do get very coin hungry as the road narrows and obstacles increase - expensive to play in the arcade, but not so bad with MAME ;-)

@@digituba it's not you. It's filled with impossible bits to negotiate when you HAVE to travel at speed. It's designed to have money pumped into it constantly which is what they want.
