We would like to introduce our very compact IEM Rack
With just 6U and 4 individual stereo In Ear Monitor mixes it is very easy to travel with and can be ready within 5 minutes.
We are using it with our band for gigs where we just use it as a monitor mixer and also when we are playing with our own PA.
We did not receive any equipment for free for this video and this is 100% our own opinion.
Equipment used in the rack:
Sennheiser EW IEM G4-G In Ear Monitor amzn.to/49tzk2I
ART-S8-Eight-Channel-Splitter - amzn.to/40rnq5f

This is amazing. I built almost the exact same thing - 6U Gator case, XR18, using the Behringer MS8000 splitters (which provide phantom power using the Link out). Ours is not as complex - we use cheaper IEM's like the Xvive u4 (For all standing musicians), and I as the drummer just run a longer headphone cable out to my throne, while utilizing the main L&R as my stereo mix. One challenge I have with the 6U (also with the reverse mounted XR18) is fitting both XLR's patching from the splitter to the inputs of the mixer, but ALSO fitting the ends of split snake. How do you manage this? It seems awfully cramped? Some things abut this build which I love is the punch panel for Main LR, Line 17/18 and headphones. Also, the foam insert on the cover is super slick (and takes care of the lack of drawer space)! Love this! Funny question - but what label maker did you use to label the splitter?

There is not a lot of space for the cable but I made all XLR by myself so they are as short as possible and all cables are very well organized inside so they do fit. For the labels I am using the Dymo label maker and a shrink tube.

Great video! You could use the Xvive P1 for phantom power, if needed. Very helpful, cheers!

Thank you! Yes, the Xvive P1 would work but we need 5 and it would add more money (about $250), setup time and maintenance (charging them after the gig)

I don't understand - doesn't the MR18/XR18 provide phantom power? Shouldn't this just work out of the box?
@Axeltab
@Axeltab 8 ай бұрын
@@DavidMacVicar yes they do.

The MR18 does have phantom power but both outputs of the three-way splitter in the back are isolated outputs. So the phantom power would not go from the MR18 to the microphone in the front. The two-way splitter have one direct output on the back.@@DavidMacVicar

Great video! Thank you for the breakdown. Do you have any suggestions regarding the frequencies of the transmitters since there are three different options?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 9 ай бұрын
That depends a little bit on where you live or where you play the most. Here in New York there are some frequencies blocked so we picked the frequency range above those. There are frequency finders online where you can search for your region.

on a larger stage where the whole drum set is already miced up, how to you put on your own drums mics? Do you put them additionally? Do you bringt your own overhead stands? Doesn't the stage tech get frustraded when he has to rip out all the existing drum mic cables from the stage box to fit in your snake? Not sure if i got it right, do you also mix FOH with it or does the FOH geht all the signals seperately?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground Ай бұрын
If we use our own PA we also go FOH with it. If we just use it for the in ears we split the signals so all microphones stay the same and we unplug from the stage box to our mixer and our snake into their stage box. That is why clear labels not only with the number but also with the source is important.

Hello! Why not use Midas DN4816-O instead of 2 ART S8?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 15 күн бұрын
With the DN4816-O you are giving the signal post gain. If I would be the engineer for FOH I would not accept a signal where I have no control over the gain.

How did you do the custom foam insert for the rack lid? Also, did you glue, tape, or Velcro it to the inside of the lid?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground Ай бұрын
The foam insert is from mycasebuilder.com It fits without glue but I do use velcro to make sure the receivers are not falling out.

@@emeraldcityunderground Did you add the cut-outs for the receivers on that website too?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 23 күн бұрын
@@chrismilwaukee2330 No I did not. They have the Sennheiser Transmitters in their library (but the antennas are a little bit too short) and the other cut out was a square for the batteries and my in ears.

Thanks so much for theses precious informations ,it Help me a lot.no problem with MR18 regarding overheating , do you have some Fan or system to refresh the Midas?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 9 ай бұрын
No, the MR18 does not have a fan and so far we never had the problem with overheating. Even at longer gigs over 4 hours outdoor in the summer. There is a small gap under MR18 in the Rack.

Good to know, Thank you, I'm trying to do the same compact box like you but with UI24R from Soundcraft , and some overheating issue is known @@emeraldcityunderground

I have never worked with the UI24R. I know a few who are using the MR18 or the Behringer version of it without a problem.

I'm curious as to where you got the custom foam for the sennheiser packs.
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 7 ай бұрын
From mycasebuilder.com/ They have a template for the Sennheiser if you do the custom foam builder. The cutout for the antenna is a little bit too short but great otherwise.

No protection rack or system in order to prevent the Larsen? Does the Midas is enough?
@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground 9 ай бұрын
Sorry but I don't really understand the question. I know the Larson effect as maybe the official name of feedback but I am not sure if that is what you mean.

Yes sorry I'm speaking about feedback , you don't use any system in order to prevent?@@emeraldcityunderground
@emeraldcityunderground

No. With using in ears and no monitors on stage having feedback is not a big problem.
