With the ability to function as its own retro gaming arcade but also as a controller for PC, Switch, and PS3/PS4, the Super Console Arcade Stick from KinHank feels like the sleeper hit of 2022. In this video we'll look at the ins and outs of this surprisingly affordable and capable device, and why it's become my family's favorite console of the year.
** UPDATE: it's come to my attention that the AliExpress listing for the arcade stick without games has a promotional image WITHOUT the hookups for the S905L Android box on the back. I recently received confirmation that the "non-game" version does NOT come with the Android box inside, and have removed those links from this description. I apologize for the mixup.

If anyone else bought one 'without games' from Amazon, here's what I just posted below in a thread specifically about it: I did get in touch with the seller, who eventually offered a refund after receiving the returned item (to China, from Colombia, with tracking, at my expense). He also gave me a 'helpful' explanation of what it was I'd got sitting in front of me :D I was not thrilled at this, but waited for the returns label with the intention to at least see what services might be capable of this and the prices, before I decided if it would actually just cost me too much or not. A returns address did appear, which at least was in Texas, not China, a few days ago. Today I received a refund and after speaking to an Amazon representative, I was informed that they'd directly refunded me and would take over dealing with the seller. There was also no need to return the item. I passed the incorrect listing details to the representative, and he said they'll talk to the seller to try to either correct the listing, or pull it completely.

I wouldn't say that the Neo Geo list is curated. The reason there aren't duplicates is because there don't really exist any (apart from bootlegs and hacks). Neo Geo games had all the regional differences on one cartridge and it was the BIOS of the machine that determined which version was played. You could put a US cartridge into a Japanese system and it will run the Japanese version of the game.

Russ, thank you again for your work! As I mentioned elsewhere in a prior comment-while sometimes I know the device isn’t for me, I always love watching your videos through to see what little tips and tricks you might have up your sleeve that is applicable to other devices. Today’s tip: setting the N64 res to half native and using scan lines. My hacked Switch almost plays Castlevania 64 at native, but half res ain’t too bad on the portable screen. Acceptable, anyways, until my Steam Deck arrives!

The limiting design factor for this stick is that it will work great on a table, but if you want to use the stick on your lap, the HDMI and charging cables will be a hassle to deal with as either of those coming loose will disrupt gameplay.

that's actually insane value, how they fit an android box inside a barebones, still nice and customizable arcade stick and still sell it at just over 100$ is beyond me
@fabio78
@fabio78 Жыл бұрын
It's not insane value. A Raspberry Pi Zero would run all those games and retails for 10 dollars. Taking into account this is probably running on a cheaply made Chinese knock-off bought in bulk, I'd say it costs them 5 dollars, no more. Plus the arcade stick is just a hollow shell with cheap components. You can buy a GOOD arcade stick for about 50, so I'd be surprised if what they pack here cost them more than 10 dollars. Add to that the fact that they are illegally including Emuelec and the work of others without paying a cent and this thing is pure profit. You can make your own for half the price and better components without any technical knowledge, just a little patience to follow guides and forums.
@Vher_
@Vher_ Жыл бұрын
@@fabio78 I'm mostly talking about this like an "arcade stick with a bonus", tbh. I know you can just build one out of cardboard if you feel like it but I was under the impression that the cheapest you could go for fully prebuilt while still getting something sturdy was around 100$ with some Mayflash and 8btido ones

@@fabio78 is your time worth 0? For someone that has no knowledge into builds, not handy, no idea how to set any of it up..... compare that with what they make ..... in other words it's only a bad value if your time is worth 0 or you like to build and tinker.
@fabio78
@fabio78 Жыл бұрын
@@billweirdo9657 oh that excuse... I'm not suggesting that you have to build an engine or learn to play the piano. Those things are truly stupidly easy to put together, no hyperbole. The hardware is straightforward and Emuelec is made easy to install and configure like any other computer app. Takes you an evening, a maximum of two, to learn from scratch and put everything together, couldn't it come from the time you'd be spending playing it anyway? Also, I'm sorry, but if you have time to watch KZfaq reviews, read comments and reply to strangers, you have time to learn this stuff. Maybe prioritise your time better? Maybe have some curiosity and DYI spirit in you? I'm just saying, in this case, you'd end up with a product that can play Dreamcast without any stutters for half the price, plus the satisfaction that you get for doing something yourself for once. Food for thought.

Hi, I appreciate the feedback. The green mat isn't going anywhere, but going forward I will change up the filming location based on the content. With something like this arcade stick, which is rather tall and 3D in nature, I prefer to use the table setup with a monitor to show the correct scale. For handhelds or teardowns (like in this video) I will go back to the desk. The idea isn't to move away from the green mat, but to provide the right angle/context depending on the subject.

If you have one, I'd love to know. This seems like a good value proposition with no card and making your own image, but it'd be a lot more worth it if you could use a dongle to make it support bluetooth. Alternatively, does it support a USB hub for games that support 3-4 players?

I like when you review some weird chinese machines :) I'll never understand why do they put these cloned games or can't configure them properly :) I mean, they release(d) a lot of similar devices - they should already have some kind of preselected roms list that works flawless on specific CPU (they use the same variations almost every time) :) To be fair - they did improve a bit in this area :) They preselected PSP games (yea, i know, psp minis etc.), ripped versions of PSX roms - hmm i can understand it a bit. At least somebody put tiny amount of work there. Also, it seems that you're able to configure everything, they didn't lock it with some weird CFW (like ie. the Powkiddy you showed). But yea, it's a bit shame that IF they put a bit more effort into software, roms, configuration, then the device would be even better :) ps. I also think that the pricing is pretty nice. Dreamcast with frameskip is not too bad, for such device. btw. do you know if some 2d PSP games (like ie. some jRPG, or Tekken Dark Resurrection with frameskip) work there too ? If yes, then, it's even better. The only cheaper way you can go is some android TV. Everything else, including some ie. Dell Optiplex Micro + Batocera combo + gamepad will end up similar or more cost ps2. I love the way it looks :) Really good "clone" of 8bit-do :)

I like some of the hacks on here, most are ripped from that Retro sonic page, meaning every once in a while you'll get a hidden gem. I've played through the first 3 sonics so many times that it's boring now. I can sort of speed run Sonic 2, 50 minutes I think is my best time.

Was able to purchase one with no card for $76+tax w/free shipping, $83 total, on Ali after coupons. Couldn't pass up on that for decent arcade stick that doubles as an emulation machine

LOL. It's dangerous for the wallet but man these constant new emulation device videos are so exciting and fun to watch. Russ makes my favorite videos. I'm glad and impressed Ihe blindly figured out and replicated how to get the stick to work on the Switch. Mad kudos for that, on top of making a solid video.

That's thermal adhesive and not thermal compound, it's not "cheap stuff". Thermal adhesive cost around the same price as any thermal compound. Thermal adhesive is like a glue for heatsink on small boards with no real way to secure them on top of vrms or the cpu permanently, you can op for thermal tape but do note that thermal tape is not permanent application and the heatsink can fall off vrms or the cpu versus using thermal adhesive. When it comes to low powered boards and chips, thermal adhesive is more than adequate enough with thermal conductivity.

From experience, I highly don't recommend getting these type of systems with an sd card. The sd cards provided are a complete junk, its not IF but WHEN these dodgy sd cards will fail/corrupt on you. So save yourself some $ and get a good known brand sd card, if a device does some with one, swap it out asap, you will thank yourself later, nothing worse when you setup everything up to your likings and then all that time wasted when the sd card fail. Im talking from experience with years of buying chinese retro/gaming devices.

Absolutely, to easy to pick up an quality SD card and transfer everything to a good one. Also a good idea to back up games to hard drive.
