in the early to mid 90s I personally knew David. my bboy friends and I shared the floor many times during practice with Dave & Co. We were beginning and Dave and his guys been bboy'n for sometime. Being from the Central Valley and living a city away we would gather for practice on occasion. We were a near 20 deep and work on a few moves and try to find that new style. We would comment on each others arsenal and I can remember we would always stress "clean". Meaning perfection with no, what we called back than DRAGGING. Basically cheating by touch guiding while doing those power combo's. But, yes we became more competitive and Gabe brought that attitude, with Dave following up. I began to break in 92 up until early 97. Dave of course continued and we all went our own directions. I converted to music production as did a few others. Some had legal trouble. some of the guys passed away.. But you guys are right on about dave. Not much style with unlimited potential. I didn't see Dave break until I viewed the KZfaq clips. It surprises me that he didn't get were I thought he should have gotten. But Dave is a cool person and talented. He went further than I did.... my personal favorite to me, with multiple style of floor and up rock skill..... It was Gabe Colbos. I looked to him as a mentor and good friend. He along with Chaotic Styles were the first peeps I seen bboy in this part of Cali. I was young and amazed by what I seen.... Who knew that less than three months after watching that battle. we would be Friends and they was teaching the basics to my brother and I. I would say that these moments were the brightest in my young life. I wouldn't trade it for any thing.

+shevegen I didn't say in my last comment.... But Dave had started a fam and I believe that.... it was right around summer of 1997. That was the last time I seen Dave.... It wasn't my last.. as I said in my last comment... everyone does their own thing. as I said we all got our own shit going on. I was hustlin for 4 years straight... Basically the whole time Dave had disappeared. I got ratted on by a rival dealer and they built a case. police caught me slippin in April 2002 and they rolled me up on a raid @6am. So to make a long story short. I was 2 weeks in to serving my bid. than one morning a line of new prospects were being brought in. Super Dave was one of them. we had plenty of time to catch up. buy one thing was fo sho... Dave had changed since the days of breaking. we would mess around in the break room. but nothing really special. years had gone by and Dave had put on a lot of weight. I'm talking over 220ibs. But I did tell him that at least we were there and doin it at the time. he would be sent home before my release. I haven't seen Dave since. but I still BS wit Gabe.... recently one of the members from their group had just committed suicide. that was a week ago I believe.

That is such a Cali story, they don't know what is up out here. I'm from the city in the bay. So I know the hustle. I modeled my flares after him when I started bboying, I also gotta give to my hometown hero as well Jazzy J He was way ahead of his time when it came to power around the world at that time. But I also thought Super Dave Flares and flare-90-windmill-90 to flare again was so clean.

This guys is old school. Guy was breaking before you were even thought of so i dont wanna even hear you say he has good potential. I remember this guy on battle of the year 1997. We used to try to go to all the events and battles back in the 90's just to see guys like Dave, Remind, Kareem, etc. so many more to name.

@chewxxxv dope form and flow but this is just a bad clip in terms of variety. Too much of the same 2 beginning moves. Even back then I'd get bored. Maybe it's just the clip and the editing. But if not, he definitely could have played around with his power combos more even if the didn't bother learning another power move.
@OahuKidd16 жыл бұрын
good at power moves....thats it. no footwork, no style. Its obvious he has huge potential
@bboyStuntZ14 жыл бұрын
Flare 90 in almost every set. Not much power variety in this clip.
@meze95633 жыл бұрын
The same goes for you, I've watched your videos and you were doing basically the same power as super Dave however he didn't scrape the ground like you do when you do flares. He would have smoked you in his prime. Show some respect for the OG's
@bboyStuntZ3 жыл бұрын
@@meze9563 Did I lie though? Super Dave still gets my respect and in fact he's one of my inspirations. You are correct, based on my recent show clips that I posted. I don't have much power variety, which is why I don't put together a 5 minute video of me doing just power. Only 2 minutes or so max. Which is not his fault cause Super Dave didn't put together those clips I don't think. I was a well rounded b-boy. So my variety is in my overall breaking sets. Yes I did scrape flares in my last video which does not happen much unless I'm really tired. I was not fresh in that last clip. I was doing a solo sidewalk show that day for about 13 + hours straight. It was an extremely busy day and no food, no sitting down, no bathroom break. So scraping after performing that long and hard, didn't even bother me cause I'm usually hard on myself for that. I don't know any b-boys that can do that or are willing to do that. Also with my show I don't talk to the crowd. I just break which can sometimes be harder if you do it the way I do.

@@bboyStuntZ Super Dave was capable of more, you just didn't live in Cali during that time, and He didn't put those clips together. Not everything was recorded back then, so people could look it up on youtube. the internet was a around but the thought of KZfaq wasn't just because you didn't see it; doesn't mean it didn't happen. And all of us bboys would practice for 13 - 16 hours max back in our prime. We drank, pissed and shit bboying. That's why SEC was so unique back then, they had it all. And also respect goes out to my hometown hero as well Jazzy J he was doing stuff way ahead of him time.
@bboyStuntZ3 жыл бұрын
@@meze9563 I'm sure he was capable of more. I started in the late 90's so yea I know about how the internet was back then. I was downloading little 30 second clips of Rock Steady Crew, Style Elements, Second 2 None, Spartanic Rockers, Battle Squad, list goes on back then. All the videos I posted on my KZfaq page isn't everything I could do either. So many of the moves and combos I used to land were not recorded. We used to practice from night till morning as well if we had a spot. Which was rare. Was hard for us to get a place to practice, until we found b-boys that worked at dance stuidios and were allowed to open and close the studio. But my show, the way I do it, is harder than a typical practice. Practice, you can rest. My show, no talking on a busy day solo? People tip, I throw down. $5 tip or higher power set. If they like the power set, someone else tips $5 or higher. No rest. Oh and the crowd liked my sets so I was going back to back power sets until I almost felt like passing out. That's even harder than a 1 vs 1 battle no waiting for opponent to finish their set. I ain't taking anything away from Super Dave. He was dope and he inspired me when I started breaking. As you mentioned my power looks similar to his only cause that's one of the b-boys I looked up to for power. I still got my own style though. The way this video was put together makes his sets look repetitive and that all I ment with my comment. Especially when the video is running for 5 mins. I knew Super Dave didn't put those clips together.

@@meze9563 I heard of Jazzy J as well. I used to watch clips of him from Radiotron on my Windows 98 computer. Another b-boy I looked up to for power move form.
