I watch A LOT of these hoof trimming videos. I learn best by watching. It's my learning style. I'm not a farrier, but seemed like he under trimmed the fronts to me.

Hi maam! With the feet as uneven as these 2, you want to be very careful that you aren't taking too much of the foot and over trimming to the point that the horse is in pain! One front showed evident rotation of the bone, meaning you do not want to take sole as there is less sole between the bone and the ground, which can be very painful for a horse to walk on!

Nice lookin feet, as usual, I thought a little more toe could've come off, but you're the professional, and I'm just an old Cowboy. 🐎 👍 🇺🇲

He did a good job but by no means are those nice feet.

Thank you sir! With feet that were this uneven we wanted to make sure we weren't doing more harm than good by taking too much foot off! Its a hard adjustment going from that long to a correct length, and the last thing we want to do is make a horse sore or uncomfortable!

Great video. Thank you. Am I wrong or is the medial heel on the right front slightly jammed (sheared)? If so how do you correct this? Do you have to unload the heel or is just a balanced trim all it needs to come back down?
@olsenequinecjf

We hope by having very balanced shoeing, we can angle the foot where it will grow in a more healthy, balanced manner! We shoe where the foot should be, and over time that issue will progressively become less and less optimistically!

Nice job with the feet in that condition. Are you are holding nails in your mouth? There could be some germ issues, and of course with a horse one never knows when the urge to stop behaving is going to be there. I don't believe swallowing a nail would be very good for one's health. Retired now, but I kept my nails on the magnets in my chaps/apron.

Enjoy your videos but I like it when you have audio with them. Is there a reason you didn’t trim the toes until after you put a shoe on. Not a farrier but wondered about that. Thank you again for sharing.

Hi maam! Im working on making sure our videos here on out have audio and explain the process going on! We trim the toes after putting the shoe on because we shoe to where the foot should grow! This way for the future it is in the correct place to promote healthy growth!

Why did this horse grow such a high heel? is that dark area in the toe a subsolar abscess or the pedal bone penetrating the sole or something else?
@olsenequinecjf
@olsenequinecjf 6 ай бұрын
This horse was long overdue when he came to us. Most horses have uneven growing hooves, in this case this one was growing more straight down than forward!

Recently I have been watching a lot of videos shared by the "trimmers" in the Far East: "overgrown hooves - donkeys". "Super long foot..."??? No - have a look at the extremely neglected donkeys mentioned above.

Hi Charlotte! Any foot that has not been trimmed on schedule can be considered very long or overgrown! Any amount of overgrown is still overgrown!

How often should an owner have their animals looked at for hoof trimming? Should cows have their hoofs trimmed?
@olsenequinecjf
@olsenequinecjf Жыл бұрын
We recommend horses have their hooves trimmed every 5-6 weeks! Cows also should have their hooves trimmed on a regular basis about every 6 months I believe. We do not trim cows at our practice!
