The DS version has so much extra content that it makes up for the slightly janky controls. It's a completely different experience to the N64 version and definitely worth playing.

I played both versions and agree 100%. But I prefer playing with an Emulator to avoid the controls but I remember sending my best friend a text message late midnight cause I got the last star😂

Speedrunning a handheld game must be awesome because you can practice it anywhere. Maybe if its not too tedious for my tastes I'll pick up Pkmn Emerald to run.

That can be ran on Gameboy Player for Gamecube. You don't need to use the GBA.

Yeah, it's just how this channel works. They have a playlist where they dump EVERYTHING so people can watch on KZfaq straight away. The problem with this is that there is no sound syncing, quality issues and the edits are a bit rough. So they gradually fix up each video 1 at a time.

They stream a few times a year on twitch. If you check twitch ever once in a while, you'll know exactly when a GDQ event is happening

17:28 Man, I remember doing this glitch as a kid. How did I even get to know these things? Thinking about it, I was essentially speed-running this game as a child without even realising it... I guess getting so familiar with a game just naturally leads to speed-running. 19:43 These tricks are all so familiar I feel like I'm going crazy. XD 20:25 Huh, I always bounced across the lava. I guess it should be unsurprising this is quicker!

30:50 "You can't go through him (King Thwomp) like you can in the N64 version." Really? I though it just had more precise timing with the ground-pound. 52:24 I thought there was somewhere (near the start perhaps) where you can jump in the lava and skip up to a higher platform? It has been a while since I played the game though.

The runner clipped out of bounds with some jump trick I don't really understand. Regardless, the graphics for the area he jumped to hadn't loaded (hence why it looked empty) but the loading trigger was still there.

Basically, when getting OoB a little while slide kicking, the game tries to warp you to the closest ceiling, which was very high. Josh65536 already made a video on portals, so if you want to know more, check out his video. Anyway, by doing this he is able to skip the trigger of the Endless Stairs, but the room isn’t loaded, that’s why he is in a black room.

I'm surprised Nintendo didn't put banjo-kazzooie or dk 64 on the DS; unless Microsoft had already bought Rare, but I don't remember the year that took place.

bluevoid For the record I'm pretty sure Rare had been bought out by the time the DKC games were ported to GBA. My best guess is that the DS just flat out wouldn't have been able to provide a serviceable port of DK64. It already had to use the expansion pak on the N64 itself. Banjo was always an original Rare IP so that would've been out of the question either way.

The title of this video is off, HastyAether finished the run in 54:11, not the estimate of 1:05:00.

That's just the estimated time, as in it's a guess of how long he'll finish the run. The estimated time is on every AGDQ run because they have a schedule they have to follow so everyone gets a chance to perform their runs without rushing.

It makes sense for some stars, but others are so simple to get, or are so...side-quest-y, if that makes any sense, that it gets annoying when they boot Mario out. It especially sucks in Tick Tock Clock because it's a large vertical area, and each star is further and further up the course, so each time you grab a star, you've got to retread the same platforming again.

+AlterEgo218 Playing with Circle Pad would't really help. The game is programmed for the DS, so it only has 8 directions programmed (for the D pad). So, while using the Circle Pad works, you would still only be able to move in 8 directions.

As a GDQ announcer you're supposed to coordinate with the runner regarding when donations should be read. Some runners say that you can read them whenever there's empty space to fill, while others say to wait for their cue. Sometimes, if a runner if really in the zone and focused, they forget to cue the announcer and then you're left with dead air. So people need to improvise as best they can. But it seems like people were bothered by how frequently it happened.
