Hello, I have tried it and had the same issue as you did for the longest time, tried it again and it turns out I pressed A , instead of X and then up, it seems it is press X to go to first person, and then adjusting the camera and look up (or down), I think it is either ,up and down ,or up. I got the wing cap then. It is look up after though. The sunlight goes away too after I got it.
