The moon cave skip only works because you wall jump in specific spots. Nintendo put an anti-double wall jump timer to prevent that, but again, jumping in the exact spots bypasses that timer, allowing the skip. It's definitely more than just jumping twice, and Nintendo actively tried to prevent that from happening.

If you want to read some more interesting stuff about Odyssey Speedrunning, what I'm about to tell you would almost certainly be top 3, if not 1 (should everything work out). Anyway, throughout the game, there are paintings that you use to obtain otherwise unobtainable out of reach moons in other kingdoms. Paintings are only unlocked when you reach the kingdom the painting sends you to. The painting from say Cascade to Bowser's isn't unlocked until you actually reach Bowser's Kingdom. There are 3 exceptions to this rule however, you can go from sand -> metro, lake/wooded -> luncheon, and luncheon -> mushroom. These are the ones that have the potential to skip major portions of the game. Of course, the developers have put barriers preventing anyone from actually reaching the mainland in each. In Metro, you are a ridiculous way away, and so this won't be viable until we're able to cross bigger gaps than we currently do. In Luncheon, you're also quite far away, and if you touch the lava (which you can) you will be put into a bubble, which sends you back to the painting. And in Mushroom, there's a huge invisible wall, so we need a way through the wall to get to the mainland. However, in Luncheon, version 1.0.0, the bubble isn't there, as the developers didn't realise how far Mario could go. With a technique we call 'Roll Cancel Vectoring (you do a roll cancel off a ledge to be already at max speed, and Mario's diagonal speed cap is actually greater than his forward speed cap, so you can go further diagonally). It is then possible to lava boost all the way to the nearby island safely. However, unless you're godlike (shoutouts to JKB), you won't be able to cross it, as the jump is ridiculously tight. But thankfully, you can initiate 2P mid-jump to get cappy to capture the nearby podaboo, while Mario stalls against the lava. Okay, so now we've reached Luncheon before intended we call this 'Bruncheon'. But there's a problem. The Odyssey hasn't spawned. Which means you can't leave. This is a disappointment, but hope is not lost. Our best lead is to change the state of the world by collecting a 'story' moon (any moon with an extended cutscene, i.e. the ones on the pedastals, and the multimoons). You can't get the broodal moon, as he doesn't work in Bruncheon for some reason, and you can't get the cheese rock moon as the moon hasn't spawned. This leaves 3 other story moons. You can't get the cockatiel (the bird) boss fight until you've collected the multimoon up top. This leaves us with 2. A story moon, and a multimoon. With the story moon, it's inside a loading zone on the volcano which can only be accessed by getting the multimoon on top. However, the place this so called 'loading zone' leads to, is actually on the same map as the rest of Luncheon, kinda like the rooms in Sunshine. But instead of being way above, the room is far below, and to the west of Luncheon, too far to reach with current knowledge. This but leaves one potential moon. The multimoon on top of the volcano. There's an issue though. How to climb the volcano without using the meat (Which is only activated by the cheese rock moon)? Well, it was discovered that turnips don't slide down slopes like other things do, and since you can obviously pick it up and throw it, you can essentially climb the Volcano like this. My man syrkl (frickin' legend, major shoutouts to him), managed to climb the volcano with turnips. There's now one big issue in the way, how to get around the pot? The thing though... is we don't know yet. Syrkl was actually able to basically confirm that it's up there, as the sound effects of the multimoon were heard in one of his clips (and yes, this was in Bruncheon). All that remains is to get through/around the pot. That's literally all we need to potentially skip 5 kingdoms, a potential 20 minute time save. The question, is when and how will 'Lunch Break' be made real? I, as well as the entire SMO speedrunning community would love more people to be looking for the method, or spreading the news of this potential breakthrough. hi ezscape, I'm one of the pair of people who discovered first moon skip (I found it and syrkl helped me confirm it was 1.0.0 exclusive), and I wanted to point out that the method you showed in the video for skipping the bridge barrier (the water jump) is not possible in 1.0.0; the barrier does not have that gap in the geometry. you instead need to do a very long jump from the rock that the bridge is housed in (rolling hat jump -> hat jump -> twirl -> dive)

@EZScape: How about when describing button presses for a certain combo (e.g. 12:42) you represent it with a joystick/keyboard/whatever applicable with the pressed buttons highlighted? Shouldn't be too much extra work since it's just cutting together static images, and you can show it in slow-mo and in real-time, so that the combo is conveyed way more comprehensible and impressive. It also has the added bonus of better understanding for someone who hasn't played the game or even the console yet and may not even know the controller. Just a thought! Thanks for the great vids :)

HOLY SHIET I barely even booted up my Odyssey copy and I did the rolling cancel glitch on my third try and I made it over the NDC gap connecting the area with the odyssey and the city on my twelfth try!

CRCs weren’t a thing yet when this came out? I feel so old…

In the sand kingdom rocket level called “strange neighborhood” you can jump to the platform without activating the scarecrow, and you will be able to complete the moon with cappy (which is much easier)

The very first trick (the first power moon skip) can be performed in every version, from 1.0.0 to the new 1.3.0. In 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0, you use the same trick, but in 1.3.0, you have to go around the rock with a more precise jump to skip it. edit: 9:39 Infinite nut jumping? Its called the wet nut glitch by most speedrunners.
