I love how Peach's specials in both games are 90% cutesy support moves like healing and status effects with names like "group hug~!" and "sweepy time~!" and then her final special is just mobilizing the Mushroom Kingdom airforce for a tactical airstrike on her enemies

I have noticed that in the original game, a glowing image of the 4 poker suits (card symbols) appeared when some characters are charhing their attacks: Mario had the Spades Mallow had the Clovers Bowser had the Diamonds Peach had the Hearts Geno has the Stars, as there are only 4 poker suits. This effect was removed in the remake.

I miss the playing card glows each character has. Mario: Spades. He's the Ace of Spades. Mallow: Clubs. He's the 'blank' of Clubs. Bowser: Diamonds. He's the King of Diamonds. Peach: Hearts. She's the Queen of Hearts. Geno: Joker/Star. The Powerful Wild Card. Put them all together and you have a full deck.

I like how in both the original and the remake i fail to see geno’s front most leg during geno rain, and continue to think that he turns himself into an umbrella when he does the attack

I miss the card suits. They were so superfluous but so pointlessly cool.

I wish the remake still had 1) the card symbols, 2) The deep electronic "Wahh" sound as Bowser activates the Crusher, 3) Bowser snapping his finger to cast spells, and 4) Peach jumping in the air before some of her moves, but otherwise it looks great

It's so nice to have a proper joystick instead of the D-pad for some of these attacks. I never really used terrorize in the original because it was such a pain but I've used it plenty in the remake.

It kinda sucks they got rid of the card suits for party magic usage.

Yeah, I found it quite a bit easier; beat the game 10 levels short of what I needed in the SNES original, and everyone levelled up quicker

People were waiting for Super Mario RPG to drop on Nintendo Switch Online for years. The remake kind of makes up for its absence on the service. The team that made it was really paying attention to what made the original so memorable.

It makes me really happy to see they kept the sound and visual design of these either the same or in the spirit of the original. (Except Shocker which still doesn't sound or feel as impactful as it should imo)

I absolutely love the remake but one thing that upsets me is the visual change to mallows star rain. Idk about for others, but the change makes it way more difficult to land consecutively, especially when the floor isn't what it seems.

Did anyone else notice that all the playable characters have a different card suit around them when they use a special move(with Geno having a star)? If there was an SMRPG-themed card deck, would Geno be on the 2 joker cards?

2:02 And that move was Supposedly the inspiration for Mario's Final Smash. the Remaster makes it look still Not Identical to it. Confirmed, the Final Smash was unspecifically based on Mario's usage of fire. Nothing else.

As a note, if you have the jump shoes on, Mario spins when performing jump attacks, which is present in the original and remake. However the visual cue is harder to deal with at least in the original if you're trying to get the 30/99 consecutive super jumps to get the Attack Scarf/Super Suit.

If could add in new special moves I would do such for Geno and bowser they are the only characters how don’t have 6 special moves, so they would probably be the only two how would get some, I think bowser should have gotten his fire breath as one of his special moves, would work identically to its bowser inside story incarnation, hold a to charge, and release, just don’t overcharge it, as for the other, why not have him gain shredder, the same move the final boss and primary superboss use, to get rid of all status buffs that your opponents use, rapidly press a, and he’ll remove a stat buff for each press, max the meter, and he gets rid of all buffs and also reduces their defense too, he’s a final boss himself, so why not, as for geno’s new special move, well I don’t know, maybe an upgraded version of Geno boost, which can affect multiple party members.

They done really DIRTY ON GENO because his specials have a building sound effects in original that feels like much more powerful and fitting.

Mario: Spades. The spade suit used to be the sword suit, fitting for a hero. Plus he uses hammers, a common tool like the spade/shovel that can still be used as a weapon. Mallow: Clubs. The club suit used to be the wand suit, and he's the black mage of the party who uses sticks to attack. Bowser: Diamond. Diamond are tough and he has the best defense. They also symbolize wealth and he has a whole army at his disposal. Peach: Heart. She cares for the group with her healing abilities. Also Connected to strong emotions which could be seen in her bomb attack. Geno: Star. He's a star spirit. He's also The odd man out, the wildcard. Fitting as he's an outsider to the world that the rest of the team inhabits

What the original has is like the intensity of the attacks. Like Mario superball or ultra ball. It sounds powerful. In the remake sounds like some minor fire. Bowser's gas cloud in the original did the speeding sound after it was done poisoning. In the remake it does not. Bowser mechakoopa in the original did an specific sound before activating it, this is lost in the original. And there are many other examples, but overall the remake did very well

I hate how they got rid of the power symbols like how peach had a heart geno was a star malo was the clubs mario was the ace symbol so on so forth

Fyi, timing peaches heals (outside of Come back) do NOT mean you'll get full HP. They just heal more then otherwise. Edit: You can see this in the video by the way. The timed Group huge only gave 150 and all of your characters have WAY more then that.
