This week I restore and review the Super Advantage - an arcade style third party controller for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System! Found this thing sitting in the basement at our new house and decided to clean it up and test it out. I had never actually seen one of these things in person before -- have you?

The original NES Advantage was made by Asciiware, it just wasn't advertised as such.

Great Job! It's amazing how on one hand someone can take very good care of their controller and someone else in the world might as well have dumped their Coke down the left side and into the joystick area. I've had experience with both of these scenarios. The former almost 10 years ago, the latter just a few weeks ago. The first one I bought I ended up modifying it to use (mostly) genuine arcade parts. The latter I want to keep as stock. As a bonus to anyone reading this who is interested in picking one up or already has one, the ball top is interchangeable with genuine Sanwa ball tops as well as bat tops (adapter included) without any modification. I myself have always been a bat top player so the fact that you can so easily switch is Asciiware's attention to detail and even consideration for us consumers.

Great video! Pulled mine out of the closet after seeing this. Still works great, but within 30 seconds I remembered you can barely use it if it’s sitting in your lap. Definitely has to be on a flat surface!!! Will pick up a Hyperkin adapter to use it with the NES/SNES Classic!

This was an extremely informative video. Not only did it showcase the Super Advantage and show its pros and cons with various games, but it also served as a helpful guide on good ways to clean and maintain a joystick controller. And the fact that you picked a wonderful selection of some of the best SNES music to perfectly embellish the mundane cleaning montages was a nice touch! Thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!

Could you list all of the games to play with Super Advantage on the Super Nintendo? I'm talking about arcade-styled games, beat 'em games, fighting games, platform games, shoot 'em up games, and arcade ports. please.

I remember that Ultra Duster brand of compressed air here in Wisconsin.. now you can't find it anywhere. Walmart tries to take over with their crappy Onn brand, but I stocked up on the electronic duster brand that used to be cheap (2 packs for $8.88 but after I bought it all every restock during covid they upped the price to $12.64 for 2 pack), so I have about 20 packs in my basement, half old price half new price.

I didnt like this one as much as the NES Advantage. I used the nes one for games like blaster master and metroid, but by the time this one came out, I was playing a lot of fighting games. No use for turbo in those! ASCII also made a pad version, the size of a regular controller. I remember buying it at KB toys, and me, being 10 or 11, asked for the ASSY pad. The girl was laughing her ass off, but I didnt understand why at the time. Awesome video!

My advice when using turbo on an arcade stick: only use the turbo functions for shoot'em ups and not on fighting games and beat'em ups because if you use turbo on fighting games and beat'em ups, you will get a lot of missed inputs.

I had one of these back in the day and I thought it was pretty cool at the time, but in all honesty, my pride and joy(whick I still have even now) were my pair of asciipads which were made by the same company. I also had a one handed controller by asciiware for rpgs, so you could play one handed and have a free hand to take notes, draw maps, ect.. All asciiware controllers were actually licensed by Nintendo and held to Nintendo's higher standards that they had for their own controllers.

@@FridayNightArcade lol then I'm weird too! Only a few rust spots on the back like 2 the size of a dime and 1 tiny other spot. Any idea on the best way to de-rust the back without damaging the metal
@SunTzuMedia5 жыл бұрын
@@FridayNightArcade Why they would use a metal backing that rusts make no sense to me. Do You collect pretty heavy, also? I'm currently in snes and n64 mode of collecting. Just snagged a watermelon n64 console for 70$ with hook ups and matching controller....
@FridayNightArcade5 жыл бұрын
It would be kind of a pain, but a little bit of steel wool and WD40 would probably get that rust off of there. Would just have to take the whole thing apart first. I think they used steel just so it would have more of a substantial weight to it and stand up to the pounding of little kids click-click-clicking away on the buttons. I got into collecting before prices went heywire ... now I really only pick up stuff if I need it for a video. Partially just because I don't have that much space and partially just because of the cost. I actually just sold some stuff to raise money for a new camera to do videos with.
