RA itself had plans to work with Japan on bringing the League One and SR into an Asia-Pacific "Heineken Cup" style competition after both respective comps concluded their seasons. The overall winner would then take on the northern champion according to what I read about yesterday. Unfortunately said plans were shelved because of COVID.

You´re out of touch. Complacent attitudes, overly large stadiums and over-priced tickets, as well as a mostly rural, geographically dispersed population with limited disposable income add up to low attendance rates at every level of the game. Rugby has been losing public interest in NZ for several years now, has never had a huge following in Aus and most fans watch at home or in the pub these days. Participation has steadily fallen across all age groups, as demographic shifts and concerns about long-term brain injury impact playing numbers, leading to talent deficits like they haven´t experienced in decades. People need to start basing their assumptions about NZ rugby on actual data rather than dated cliches.
