Rugby Australia has axed the Melbourne Rebels from the Super Rugby Pacific competition following the club going into voluntary administration in January.

ARU have themselves to blame. The game is poorly managed in oz since 2003. Meanwhile rugby is thriving overseas.

I'm curious where? Nz is faltering, Wales had major drama last year, English clubs are worried about bankruptcy so outside of Ireland, France and South Africa who's thriving?

How can the Rebels womens team keep going? What income would they generate and why aren't they part and parcel of the debt incurred. They should be gone as well.

It’s a shame. In my opinion, Rugby Union is a much better game than Rugby League. I get its appeal regarding the speed of it etc, but it’s so one dimensional. It’s a simple version of Union really

Know why the decision was made but still another nail in the coffin. Give some players a chance to go up to the north and be paid alot more money and play on the stadium with 80000 plus fans.

The expansion of three franchises to five with the Rebels and the Force never worked. Neither team were ever successful. The highest ranking was 9th for the Rebels when NZ teams or SA teams were in the competition. The Force highest placing was 7th in 2007. If Australian rugby didn't expand they would probably would of won a lot more than only 5 titles over 27 years.
