Step one of our Mitsubishi Fuso Camper build, we install the AAV Fuso super single wheels with some beefy tires! These Rims were purchased from Tony at Fuso Off-road (no affiliation).
The tires are Toyo Open Country A/T III, at 35x12.5x17 and a weight rating of 121Q (3150 lbs per tire at 99MPH). Pretty sure I don’t have to worry about the 99MPH part 🤣
For anyone looking for the valve stems I’ve used, I’ve included some Amazon Associate links below. By following these links, you help support this channel! By adding anything to your Amazon cart within 24 hours of following any of the below links, Amazon will send us a small portion of the sale (when you check out!). It does not need to be the item I have linked, and it does not cost you anything extra!
Thank you for your support!
Since there is very little clearance with the front drum , the valve stem on the deep side is a 90 degree one, and the valve stem on the shallow side is a short straight one.
CANADA 90 deg: amzn.to/4aEdIRC
CANADA straight: amzn.to/3NJYpNA
USA 90 deg: amzn.to/3vg0Dhk
USA straight: amzn.to/47uXM1z

A tip for everyone. I always take the labels off my tires and stick one to the inside of my garage door and one inside the lid of my truck box. That way if I ever need to buy another one I have a label off the tires on my truck to show a tire shop what I am wanting. Has come in handy and saves crawling around in the mud trying to wipe off a bad tire so I can get the tire info off the side of the tire. But Bruce, didn't you have any black spray paint to touch up the axle hubs a little to match the rim? All that rust.......

It’s always fun to watch Fuso FG videos. Keep them coming. I’m sticking with duals. They’ve served me well on my trips across the USA and down into Mexico. I’m just not willing to but the money into the truck. Rocks stuck between the rear duals is certainly a concern but they’re easy to remove using a tow strap. Search KZfaq for ‘rock stuck between duals’. There’s a Forest Service training video on how to remove them.

They look great Bruce. What did you estimate your finished build weight will be? What year is your Fuso? We are about half way done on our build and estimated that we would be in the 12, 000ish lbs range. Which is very similar weights range as Earth Cruisers are but different box structure etc. We ended up going with 37x13.5/17 131Q AT’s from Gladiator tires. This should give us our 20%+ load margin to take up the bumps better & sand driving when airing down. Cheers…. Yvon.

Hoping to be in the 10,500-11,500 range all up. Doesn’t give us as much wiggle room, but as we add more items over the years we will end up replacing with a higher weight rating tire. Will be fairly basic build in the beginning!

My Super Singles are finally here. Did you add the red on the Rims? What size rims did you go with? I’ve got the 17” and running 37/13.50x17 on it. What size impact wrench are you running? I have an option of a 1/2” Milwaukee Mid Torque or High Torque impact wrench.
@BruceandKrista
@BruceandKrista Жыл бұрын
Yep - “red stripe custom” 😁 - technically to cover the box rash/paint damage as they came out of the box. These are 17” as well, and the tires are 35/12.5. I’ve been using my DeWalt 20V impact, but not to install or remove the nuts - don’t want to chance stripping a stud out of the drum. For removal I use a 300:1 nut removal tool, and for install a 3:1 and torque wrench 😎

Hi Bruce. I noticed that when you removed the rear tire, you had no inner tire/rim. I'm interested in running my truck this way when I get it, until I can afford super single rims. I was wondering how you did that. What lug nuts? Any spacers? How far out-of-line are they in relation to the front wheel track? Any scarring or scratching having the rear brake drums exposed like that, or are they robust enough to handle it? Thanks! Donny
@BruceandKrista
@BruceandKrista 2 жыл бұрын
Running a single rear wheel on these trucks is pretty easy, the inner wheel and outer wheel use separate lug nuts, so if you have the inner wheel on the regular way around, or flipped, it’s no different. The reality is, If you only run a single rear wheel, you can skip the “Budd nut” and just use front wheel lug nuts on the rear inner. (Or you can use the rear wheel inner nuts (the Budd nut). That said, what you will have to ensure is that your tire weight rating isn’t exceeded, since you are cutting the load distribution in half. I.E if the current rear tires are rated at 2000lbs each (for example) and you only run 2 instead of 4… well obviously you can’t support the full weight. As for alignment with the front wheel, they are going to be out, almost the same amount as if you were running duals, minus the thickness of one rim, so maybe 1/4”? I think in reality the weight carrying capacity will be the issue for you, unless you change all the tires to a higher rating (like when going to super singles!) Hope that explanation helps!
@sixbennetts
@sixbennetts 2 жыл бұрын
@@BruceandKrista This helps a lot, thanks. The load on the back will only be a ton, maybe ton and a half at most, so my tires will probably, easily, handle it. In fact, my carried full load will be so low, I'm considering removing a leaf from all 4 spring packs to soften the ride, maybe even the overload springs. Thanks! Love your Fuso vids, keep em coming.
@overlandMark
@overlandMark 2 жыл бұрын
Looking good Bruce! So you just remove the rear double nut and use the front single nut? I take it's the same stud as the fronts once you get the double wheel nuts off? I see you have new nuts for the rear, where did you get them as I'll need a dozen? I'm waiting on my tires to come in.
@BruceandKrista
@BruceandKrista 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, once you remove the inner wheel nut the threads are the same size as the fronts. I ordered my “second set” of front nuts from Mitsubishi, but I believe Isuzu ones fit as well. Make sure you get half left and half right thread!
@overlandMark
@overlandMark 2 жыл бұрын

One thing that sucks is I didn't get any of the factory tool kit so I have to figure out how to get the rear wheel big square drive nut off. I haven't really looked at it as I'm too busy with work and it's too cold outside, but i should try to get the dump box off while the ground is frozen.

You need to get what’s called a “Budd socket” - it will have the lug nut drive and the square drive in the same socket.

Pretty much your only option for new is Tony at Fuso off-road. Be prepared for slow communications, and long lead times if he doesn’t have stock. Also, a lot of people find (as we did) that the rims get boxed up before the paint is fully dried, so the cardboard is stuck to the rims.

Good question! Since there is very little clearance with the front drum , the valve stem on the deep side is a 90 degree one, and the valve stem on the shallow side is a short straight one. You may be able to get suspension parts like that from Fuso Off-road - but also a local truck suspension shop may be able to to source what you need. If you want factory, try a Mercedes dealership - they should have access to the Fuso parts.
