Jason Denne well in that case they’re just bad commentators... a lot of the stuff they said was just either lame, wrong, or poorly focused. “The mii sword fighter is unique because it controls the edges of the stage” that’s literally every sword fighter tho

Derek Gill no not really, in causal play, a lot more things are going on. Items, bombs, final smashes, daybreak’s, etc. when something that small and rare happens, it’s a lot harder to notice. I didn’t notice either (no, I’m not a causal fan, I love competitive play).

Derek Gill take it with a grain of salt cause nintendo hired them to commentate this “ competitive event”. They probably told them to focus more on plays with items or smash balls instead of actual gameplay. Keep in mind that a lot of the audience were probably causal players. The audience probably didn’t know who these people were or what plays they were making. The commentators were probably told to keep it at their place so they could understand.

@Derek Gill it's a lot higher than 0.0000449% chance. It's about 0.4% chance for a bomb, and 1.8% chance for a stitch face. So the chance is actually about 0.007%. Still a really low chance, just not as low as you said.

honestly this looks really cool for a competitive play. It's not doubles, but actually a team strike. Seeing gameplay "occasionally" fight around smash ball does actually make it a pretty interesting, such as in the bit where shiek took the risk to get it, but ended up dying as a result. The biggest issue with the smash ball i feel, isn't the item itself, but the super large imbalance between all the final smashes...

To all those people who are getting butthurt that this ONE smash tournament uses items & stage morph, while literally all other tournaments have no items, Stop. Please, for the love of god, stop complaining about a single tournament that doesn't have the rules you like. Go watch a different smash tournament if you get salty about items being on. Nintendo turned items on for their tournament for a reason. Items are a huge defining feature of Smash.

Yes, but ask CPU(2008 Evolution Brawl Champion) about how much they covered his weaknesses and how much he didn't deserve it, he would go on to win no other relevant event ever again, and CPU himself admitted to being lucky with items What people want is a single Nintendo run event where they do the traditional community rules with a decent major pot(250k or something), do 1-2 of the tournaments the way they want to do it, and one Professional Smash Cup Final with 32 of the world's top players

@@vDREEGONv You're overlooking the possibility that Nintendo also does marketing with this tournament. The usual competitive ruleset (to be specific: the no item clause) can only ever showcase so much of the game, and therefore doesn't suit the needs here. Another reminder: the competitive community is before anything else a subset of the community, and it should accept they are not alone. Sorry, but this debate is far from over.

This isn't even the first time Nintendo has done this. And I think there is plenty of reason to complain. Items aren't bad in and of themselves when characters like Peach and R.O.B. can summon them with their specials, but random items spawning creates an element of RNG in an environment that is supposed to reward the player playing better. It's the same reason people hated rage in Smash 4, and that was a mechanic WITHOUT RNG. There's also a huge flaw in your argument about how Nintendo shouldn't be going about with the standard competitive ruleset in that Nintendo will ALWAYS get more exposure than events hosted by fans. This gives off the pretense that this is what competitive smash bros is like, by a company that was so against their games being competitive, they even tried to remove it from EVO with Melee. It gives me no hope that Nintendo will ever understand what makes competitive smash tick.

GiraPrimal, the competitive community is the smash community. There is no other community. You’re going to locals and events and watching tournaments at home or you’re having some friends over every couple weeks and play smash in the background. There isn’t really an in between.

No, Sakurai intentionally made the game when returning to it's competitive roots as well as improving rules that endorse competition. The marketing also displayed this with the addition of showing these features in the Directs and Sakurai stating that there will be invitational competitions that invited the best competitive Smash 4 player, Zero. Nintendo is competitive atleast when it comes to Smash

@@vr8652 So the World Championship Final(The SSBU World Ch'ship is a World Cup) was NA-NE(Samsora, Nairo, and Dabuz) with a sub from NA-SW(MKLeo) vs JP(Zackray, Abadango, Shuton) with a sub(Tea) Oh wait, the top players weren't at this tournament, because Australia/New Zealand had their finals on the same day as one of their major regionals(EG7) North America got nobody relevant to enter, and top Canadians were screwed because a National was on the same day as the Finals(B4BC), Japan got top players, and Europe had decent players

There can be different types of tournaments, guys. Not every tournament has to be no items, not have stage morph, etc. That's what makes Smash so unique and special.

So in this smash tournament set up by Nintendo themselves there is: 3 stocks in which there are 3 different characters? Maps that are banned from the majority of other tournaments Items including final smash

When you see the comments, I think most of the people think Super Smash Bros is a game which only uses for competitions. I don't think there is any problem to use items (well low items), because this game is made for fun, for all people who truly likes this game which is not just for strict competitions always, and this is actually what Sakurai wants to see when he starts the project of Super Smash Bros.

@@han-wenliu6176 Basically means randomness. Randomness takes away from the "skill" part of the game. Theoretically, a really good player like Zackray could be beaten by some wifi warrior if the latter manages to obtain a gust bellows. This is the type of problem that items-on can cause. Everybody in the real Smash competitive scene agrees that it should be down to skill and that RNG should be eliminated.

This tournament wasn’t too bad; it’s not perfect, nothing is but it shows what the game is at its core, showing off the features and stuff. It doesn’t have to follow traditional rules. Also it’s more intriguing for onlookers, which it what you want, it catches the eyes more.

It's fine for a World Cup(which let's face it, that's what this was), but it had a distinct amount of top player representation missing, don't tell me a team with 3 of MKLeo, Samsora, Dabuz, Ally, Marss, VoiD, NAKAT, and Tweek wouldn't have beaten this Team Japan NA vs Japan at Frostbite 2019 would have been a fair comparison of the two regions(NA 8-10 JP-Japan wins with 5 stocks), but if EU won, there would have been much objection to the item format screwing a top player like Zackray like what happened to Ken in 2008

This is more fun to watch. The randomness is what makes it fun. Competitive smash is not as fun to watch, but still tense. I guess I prefer fun rules to 'fair' rules.

@@biffyguybiffy6292 But SnS 5 was *last week*, and might have not wanted to enter this so soon after, and Light(GER) and Ghost are still entering the The Kid, The GOAT, The Mango, along with some other highly ranked players, and many of Japan's best are there too The actual conflicting event would have been Battle for BC in Vancouver I'm actually suprised Zackray didn't enter and get an 11am Sunday pool

MKLeo would have made more money by playing in actual tournaments than playing the items on 7 minutes time mode qualifiers. This is why most of the North American pros didn't enter. Also a Canadian major conflicted with the qualifiers.

That world championship was ultimate! Games are really meant to be fun. Guys, if you don't like items and casual rulesets, these are not for you. Even Touhou does not need fanservice either.

The problem is not that we cannot accept one tornament, but that what is essentially supposed to be the world championship that showes us who is the best does not use a ruleset that allows true skill to be the factor of winning. Also the competetive scene for smash is one of the oldest there is, and the fact that nintendo has not only never showed real support for the smash scene but now they go with their largest tornament ever with a uncompetitive ruleset shows they really don't care about smash's competetive scene. If we could get nintendo's support the esprit would grow to an enormous size, will probably have twice the entrance than any other sport on EVO for example

Sure, they're making some good decisions with patches, but they've also made stupid decisions like nerfing K rool who before nerfs, was mid tier at best. They just look at elite smash. They don't give two dog poops about the tournament scene, especially not top level.

@@lunarnachoz9083 Casuals that I refer to tend to prefer what most would consider bad rules; things that don't prioritize skill as much and lean more towards randomness and unfairness. (such as items and random stages)

Items are fun, but they can absolutely lean a battle towards a win or a loss based on pure luck alone. No competitive game should have a strong luck factor, and Smash with items does.

Ramen. Because this is a tournament. A show of skill. Items require very little skill, trivialize the game, and add an insane amount of luck. That's why. As for it being a Nintendo run event, we've been asking for a Real Nintendo tournament for years, and they keep giving us this. Unskilled players (except Zackray for some reason, he decided to go) in a non competitive luck based "tournament"

I mean, a lot of Ultimate's Top Tier characters are women (or have a female alt). No joke: Pikachu, Peach, Daisy, Lucina, Inkling, ZSS, Palutena and PT are all either female or have female alts. It makes sense that there'd be a lot of female characters.

God dang! Who knew watching top players play with items can be quite entertaining! Adds a little twist, strategy and luck in the mix. Seeing this actually doesn't make me mind having Nintendo set up tournaments like this. Besides, we also got Evo for the bigger meatier stuff that most of us watch. If anything, what Nintendo is doing is easing in new players to the competitive scene and helping them have a taste of what it can be like if those new players decide to take it a step further.

Kabuking for smash Down B: jumps on the spinning umbrella and moves side to side (like sally stageplay's final phase in Cuphead) Up B: hands blast the floor and propels him up Side A: shoots his hand out like a rocket Side B: stuns opponents with inspirit A: regular punches and stabs with umbrella Side A: he poses and launches 3 heat seeking umbrellas Down smash: minochi and mochismo appear next to him and they both trip and fall slamming anyone near him Side smash : (go nuts) Up smash: (Go nuts) B: puts out his umbrella and picks 1 out of 3 elemental attacks /a fire ball that falls from the sky and does slight damage over time/ wind that pushes back players/ and ice appears from the ground impaling them (these all do small damage) Final Smash: he turns big and whips his hair 3 times whoever gets stuck they appear on the Kai-buki theater (they look confused like falcon’s final) then the soultamate text appears and blossoms and wind thrash and whip them Stage: Kai-buki theatre

Eh, fuggit, man. People joining this tournament know what they’re getting themselves into, and it simply promotes a different playstyle. Although rng can reward players, you can be punished for trying to grab items in neutral and having stage control grants you all the items.

At least they have more stages than other tournaments..I'm tired of seeing the same 5 stages over and over again...They should at least use omega and battlefield forms when playing on final destination and Battlefield.

U can as long as the stage is dark so it covers some characters' moves. But most players just play on standard fd and standard battlefield

Most of the FD/Battlefield versions are allowed in tornament. Only a few are banned because they mess with z axis
