If you turn the brushes off for the dry pass it suck a little more and resets the carpet fibers, so I’ve found

I used to have the 5 brush version of this machine, mine didn't have headlights either. It was bought in 2002 I believe, used that machine for 10 plus year's until the air conditioner in my house at the time flooded my basement. I ended up ruining the spin scrub and my sprayers stopped working too. Lesson learned there for sure, use a shop vac for house floods. I now have a Bissell Pro Heat 2X Revolution and it works really well surprisingly. Love this video.

Thomas Rectenwald I'm wondering just how long this machine will last. 25 years? Maybe 30?

VacLab the way you know how to take machines apart and maintain them I bet you could get a really long time out of it.

Thomas Rectenwald Those Kirby GSeries and up are built poorly compared to the old Heritage models.
@VacLab6 жыл бұрын
whelenvortexr4 how did you arrive at that conclusion? Any evidence? Keep in mind, I've serviced/rebuilt all my machines.

VacLab It’s just my opinion, I’ve used a Heritage 2 and 84. I’ve used a G3, G4, and G5. They’re all good vacuums, but I like my parent’s Heritage better. I personally prefer vacuums with onboard tools, I have a Miele S7 and a Bissell Momentum. I’d like to replace the Bissell with a Riccar Tandem Air someday

I'm so envious of you nice carpet. I wish I actually had real carpet, not just area rugs.

That was a really nice video. The time passed quickly because it was very engaging to watch. Kudos for keeping both the carpets and the Hoover in such great condition. You made it fun to watch because you had fun doing it. If you go to a beauty supply shop and get some 20% Hydrogen Peroxide, mix about a cup or two to a gallon of your carpet shampoo, and pre-spray it down it will lighten the carpet as it dries. Especially pre-spray the darker areas and let it dwell ten minutes. If you do this method you can eliminate putting the soap in the machine, and therefore the first pass rinses the soap out, and you won't put down more soap than you need with each subsequent pass. But the method you used worked great so if you don't mind the rinsing passes it works well also. You can add a cup of vinegar to the rinse to help bring the carpet ph back down to neutral as higher than 7.0 pH can re-soil more rapidly. An occasional rinse of the carpets with just water, or water and vinegar will help keep the pH down as well. I'm glad you have such fun doing this type of thing, so it's no chore at all, but an enjoyable pastime. Looking forward to the next one!

You sir just have settled my curious mind! For AGES i have been wanting to try out my Sentria's Shampoo system and pit it against a standard carpet shampooer, but I have no space to keep one! Now I see- if you do the job right, if you take your time not just with the process but with the strokes, you'll get a GREAT clean. It's incredible to see how well 2 quality, american made carpet cleaners work.

john erikson yup, the Kirby shampooer does actually work. And I can't wait to try out the new Avalir style one soon.

VacLab I shampooed my whole house with the Avalir. I have 2 dogs a pitbull, and a Shitzu. The house hadn't been shampooed for over 8 years, so you can imagine the dark shade of the carpet plus the stains left from the dogs. We were at the point of needing new carpet, when a kirby salesman showed up. I had already been familiar with the Kirby because a long time ago, one of my good friends was always trying to sell me one. He had demonstrated the shampooer on a mess that his dog left behind in my house, so I knew it worked well. I had always wanted one. So when this guy showed up it wasn't really a question for me, and I was his easiest sale of the day. My house carpet being far, far dirtier than yours it took about 3 to 4 passes with laying down the shampoo, and then brushing it clean, but it totally revived the carpet. It also got rid of most of the stains. The stains it didn't get rid of, it faded them down tremendously. Now everytime one of the dogs has an accident I just bust out the avalir shampooer, and no stain is left what so ever. Another great video Vaclab you've given me an idea to get rid of the couple of faded stains left. 👍👍

Hey! I do love watching your videos, especially this one. You have lovely carpets, so, the Hoover shampooer you have is very similar to my VAX Dual V pro, and I guess as they are now all owned by the same company the similarities are uncanny. I laugh at the 6 rotating brushes they advertise, it makes it sound like there are 6 rows of brushes 😂😂😂. That one did such a good job on the carpets. Now, the Kirby. As you may know Kirby’s are one of my favourite vacuums and I have nearly all the ones available in the Uk from 1978. All the ones I have refurbed, especially the G series have had water damage due to the shampooing system. Firstly from user mis use and thinking the carpets should be ceiling high with foam! and the machine getting too wet and the low profile and tech drive letting in moisture. You did at awesome job on how to shampoo carpets the correct way, but I still don’t rate the carpet shampooing system on Kirby’s compared to extraction machines. Thanks for the demo and the vid was excellent. Thanks Bill.
@VacLab6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think there are better shampooers out there, but Kirbys typically do an OK job. I thought it was interesting that the extractor didn't do that well on the stained area (even with all the foamy goodness), but then again it doesn't shampoo. BTW, I was attempting to make at least a 1 hour video, but have failed again! You win in that area... 😃😎

A tablespoon or two of vinegar in the rinse water really helps to break down the soap and leave the carpets clean without smelling bad.

For the stain by the baby gate I would try a product called bio break with citrus sold and use a carpet rake and guaranteed that stain will be gone. I then use a protectant and the results are amazing, a tribute to its effectiveness is the piece of remnant carpet in the Garage is treated with the protectant and when dirty and wet from winter traffic I bring it in to dry and then vacuum and it looks like it been cleaned, I’m blown away to say the least. That carpet rake I mentioned earlier is amazing and cheap, I’m sure you know all this since you mention joe wheeler.

I live in the UK, we just can't get anything like that (steam and vac) except mop things that break down pretty quickly. But the second path of the Kirby is more to raise the nap of the carpet than remove foam. You don't want to remove foam as its the foam that dries and combines with any remaining dirt lol. Then you wait for it to dry and hoover up the dried foam/dirt. Wouldn't really apply it after wet shampooing either. Its a dry shampoo method lol.
@Cleaning_Hero4 жыл бұрын
I think the new design is easier to use, but it isn’t as easy to clean out(more components), as it still does need to be disassembled like the old design and cleaned out. It also doesn’t lay out foam as well as the older design.

Sorry to blow up your page, I have the day off. But one more thing, if you come across one used in good shape or can afford to buy a new one get a bissell big green upright cleaner. The results are amazing, I have the next model up from your Hoover and using it first the water is almost clear, then I followed it up with the bissell and it was the color of coffee with cream. I couldn’t believe it, I’m OCD with my machines so they are basically assembly line clean when I’m done with them, so I know it wasnt just dirt from a previous cleaning. That machine coupled with the bio break and carpet rake will make those problem areas disappear. I bought my chemicals and rake at janilink. Com but I’m sure there are other sites that might have it too.

I’ve been watching the big green very very close. I’m really considering one, though I have a Bissell pro heat 2x advanced, and my kirby for shampooing. Many people give the Bissell big green glowing reviews but I saw several complaints about the flow indicator causing problems and failing without notice at any time after purchase. Some said to not use too hot of water? I’d be very displeased if I bought one and it crapped out

I think you were going over the carpets too quickly with the Hoover. This not giving it ample time to extract as much water as possible. I’ve always been taught to go much much slower when extracting the water using machines like he Hoover’s and bissells. They don’t have quite the same suction power as he big truck mounts obviously. But the carpets look really nice
@VacLab5 жыл бұрын
Let's see, after owning this machine for 18 years and caring for this carpet for 14 years, I think I know how fast to water extract in a low humidity environment. 😄 BTW, the carpet dried very quickly (think just a few hours).
@garrettdodson61105 жыл бұрын
VacLab that’s not bad. Just I’ve never seen anyone go that fast and not have sobbing carpets still. Maybe a bit of a quicker lace keeps the liquid from soaking too deep this keeping it suspended in the fibers to be sucked out more efficiently? I’ve also heard hooves tend to have a bit more water lift than other brands. You should do a whole series testing this. What brands have he most water lift and which machines actually extract the most water since they all typically hold 1 gallon. That would be really great !
@VacLab5 жыл бұрын
@@garrettdodson6110 then I would have to buy every carpet shampooer and/or water extractor made. Not very realistic, is it? 😎 And you know that the machine used has two levels of water it can deliver into the carpet: standard and clean surge. Clean surge will dump loads of water, while standard will not. I didn't use clean surge because this carpet was clean to begin with, so it would dry very fast later on. 😄
@garrettdodson61105 жыл бұрын

can you recommend a new Hoover steamvac shampooer, i know yours is a older style but would like to buy one that works just as well. How often do you shampooer your carpets? Also can you tell me how you polish your Kirby vacuum? Keep up your great videos. Thanks
@VacLab6 жыл бұрын
GasMan75 I would assume the newer Hoover s would be OK, but I don't have one to test, so I can't really say. My 1999 model just won't quit. 😄 I only shampoo and/or water extract once a year, sometimes less mostly due to the Kirbys (and other machines) keeping the carpet in very good condition. Lastly, I normally use Mothers polish for a quick shine but to clean up a disaster, I use an aluminum polishing kit that attaches to a standard drill.
@ted15676 жыл бұрын
I’ve been skeptical of the Kirby shampooer, because it seems to me that the shampoo would leave a residue on the carpet since there’s no real rinse. I’m guessing this isn’t your experience?
