Awesome footage of the best Touring Car racing Australia has ever seen. V8 Supercar series has nothing on this. Steve Masterton's Falcon looks tough as and bloody quick. How good is DJ being able to chat to the commentators while pressuring Jim R for a pass. Fantastic stuff.

Looks like Patt Purcell was running the dry sump here. Cooler engine oil afforded by the dry sump system didn't even require an engine cooling fan. Interesting!

While on Steve Masterton, any chance you have the 1984 ATCC from Oran Park? As I recalled starting from second row Steve Masterton bolted to the lead entering turn one and led the way for a lap or 2, with the Mazdas, Johnsons Falcon and co in hot pursuit. The no.2 Falcon looked like a chance to win Steve his first Touring Car round but then a water hose broke and the Falcon had to pull infield. A real shame. What a beast that no.2 Falcon...... RIP Falcon 1960 - 2016

Its a pity that a lot of privateers like Masterton gave up on Group A, but its understandable considering the amount of money needed. Steve said his XE Falcon was worth $70,000 but his Group A Holden Commodore in 1985 cost him twice that....and was a fair bit slower and less reliable.

The BMW 635 was just as quick as the v8s
