This guy is awesome but he really needs to take a drink . You can tell how dry his mouth is by certain things he says. It will be neat to see this place after people move in. Especially many homeless who at times don't really care about the history of the place. May of these homeless just want to take take take. I truly hope this works out really well. I'd love it myself even. ✌

I grew up in Kenya Africa seeing earth / mud houses that were round shaped and thatched with grass. As modernisation came, those houses were seen as belonging to the poor people or backward people. I remember visiting my great grandma and how everything felt in harmony with nature. Now, after watching this video at 44 years of age, I kinda feel like we were duped by the so called modernisation.

Right. We grew up in these houses and I still love them. I remember doing national service at the Gemsbok National Park (Botswana) in 1992, the office was made from cement bricks but thatched. It was like the best of both worlds. It was warm in the cold desert winters and very cool in hot summers. Perfect! We spent a lot of time in there to enjoy it.

There are homeless garden projects. There is the build your own home for habitats projects. These could be part of a homeless home building project for homeless people to build these as a project for counties that may have land allotted to building for homeless and low income.

If the bags were made of the same material as nursery fabric, they would withstand UV deterioration for up to 20 years without being grouted and limed. Just a thought.

Visit this place in SoCal if you can. The principles in this type of building are so simple and yet elegant. They are not hard to build, are not costly, and appeal to the human spirit with their organic earthy shapes.

Early irish monks lived in stone rooms shaped like these domes in coastal areas! Wooden buildings were more common but we can visit the stone ones all the wood is gone.

These techniques have been in use for thousands of years. Various forms and materials are used depending on where on the planet people are, but the basic concept is the same: long lasting sustainable living to shelter people from the elements. A great example to that effect are The Forgotten Cities in Syria, which go for thousands of miles buried under immense stretches of desert, still standing underground eons later. North African countries like Morocco and Tunisia also have entire cities built as one structure and are several centuries old.

Being a 61 year old gal , can no longer work because of arthritis and bursitis in my knees, hips, elbows ( and soon, my hands l'm afraid!!) , l have very little money to do anything with like this, other then the smallest one, but thatd work for me! It'd be great to see them donate plans to people so they could build their own home!! Thanks for sharing this with us!!

I am so angry with this fly-by-night so-called government of Americas'!!:DC is filled with life-long political crooks that dont give a who-haw about we tax payers except for what they can steal from us! The way they have treated us during this pandemic has been utterly disgraceful. But the weary the VA treats the vets has been going on since Viet Nam. 30% of the homeless are vets. How do you keep them from falling apart in the rain? Would this work in humid places on earth? This would be good to create as homeless shelters & build up a community. Create a larger one for a common kitchen & a larger one for a shower room & one for a laundry room. It would be great if you would teach these building techniques to those who are trying to develop homeless communities.

But what you don't know is that "homeless" people choose this lifestyle. They like to not have people tell them what to do. They keep getting kicked out of homes, so it is simpler to just be homeless.

Not ALL homeless people choose to be homeless, the rents and prices have gone up exponentially for years while paychecks have stagnated! I have a friend that is working two full times jobs with exceptional pay for both and still cannot afford a rental or to buy a home! You may want to do more research on this subject. Obviously you haven't got the first clue about what you just tried to propagandist! You're simply Just repeating other propaganda excuses you've heard others parroting as well!

I first learned about Nader kalili in his Geltaftan style where he burns the house to make it strong but his super adobe is what he is famous for. I wonder how superadobe does against water

We can solve many of these world problems and will. Just have to continue to keep stepping into the right direction. These low cost affordable eco tiny homes will be popping up all over the world soon enough. Permaculture works being practiced by people like Geoff Lawton will rise everywhere too and be incorporated with eco villages to help show alternative ways of living to escape the enslavement to a mortgage or being trapped and dependent on the system for money to pay for food, water, etc just to survive. We will help build a more sustainable, eco friendly world for all on Earth to thrive in abundance with nature

As usual with California constructions, all of the costs mentioned would be less in other parts of the country. Homes based on this concept could truly help impoverished communities in the Midwest.

@@askjdog Yup! In June 2021 CalEarth got an ICC-ES number for SuperAdobe Cement Stabilized Earthbags, meaning it abides by international building codes and will be much easier to get permitted in future!

This is an awesome way to live. If I get the promise for the construction land i will build a round dome house under 10 squaremeter. In case of that size it is legal how you desire to build such a tiny house in my country . Of course you need to have the skill to live the minimalist life style.

The white wall seen at 46:16 could be made with adobe like the other houses, and with wooden framing between it and the straw bales, a second floor could fit there. That would significantly increase the living area in said house. At 40:48 you can see how much space the second floor would have by looking at the edge right above the door and assuming that once the second floor is added then the space between the white part on the inside and the top of the door's arch would be taken by the second floor being added. If/when needed, further divisions of the space could be implemented, to effectively end up with multiple rooms.

I love these houses. So easy to build, and so cheap, even regular sandbags can be used in a survival situation. Since u can build 1 basic hut per day, I would love to see these buildings in refugee camps or homeless tent towns, where people and their kids are suffering and dying in shitty tents and shanty barracks. 1 small hut per 2 people or per 1 family, with the skylight and with the amazing heat efficient Rock Stove mass heater, which only requires 20% wood fuel, heats up the metal barrel for cooking and then slowly heats the bench and floor so the whole house is warm and toasty all day. I want to make these houses my mission in life, build these for others and for myself. Thank you so much to the creators for showing and sharing these incredible ideas, that have been used for thousands of years in Asia and Africa and Turtle Island and Americas and even remote Scotch islands (where Scots built these beehive domes out of flat stones instead of sand bags).

In South Africa there is the invasive Wattle tree which has most glorious yellow pompom type flowers - bees & birds love - also makes lovely flower arrangement - but the wood is XLNT fire wood... grow like weeds but are villiefied ...

There's a HUGE misconception that burning wood for heat is sustainable. It's just not anymore due to the climate crisis. Imagine if EVERYONE burned wood for heat and energy, the local air quality would be terrible and so would the toll on our greenhouse gas situation

This family built earthbag bedrooms, for each of their four adult children--but with a more traditional style of roof, so still circular, but not domes... kzfaq.info

Excellent learning about a nearly all natural way to house ourselves. They remind me of the igloo homes always shown for Alaska and cold places. 😂 Had to giggle at the last few seconds where you •point• to a variety of options: subscription, other videos, Patreon. You should use Mesquite root wood for your rocket heater, it's a desert dwelling bush, tree. Plus it smells great it is a natural insect repellent and it's very dense so it burns for a long time and it's great to use as a smoking wood to cook with. It's a native plant in the southwest more less in abundance in Texas and new mexico, so if you don't have it already there , then it will atleast grow well if planted. It also has a been pod that can be eaten, it's not the greatest tasting been, but edible non the less

Housing design isnt the problem; Zoning is the problem. Keeping the poor impoverished and writing laws to prevent these type of buildings is the problem. Earthship community in Taos has been there for decades but still remains the only area Zoned in U.S. for such structures.

Pamela Vesey: I couldn't agree more. Bureaucracy has dis-empowered people by denying them the ability to build their own homes, or even provide for themselves in many of the ways that were formerly just part of normal, smaller communities. We must demand-- as human beings-- the right to build our own shelters without the unrealistic standards imposed by bureaucracy, which create the barriers that lead to impoverishment and/or massive homelessness.
