Car info & modifications: Owned since 2003, most of the work performed by owner. Factory-plus, period correct modifications. Stock Basics: 3.2L I6, 4 valve, VANOS cam timing/phasing, ~250 BHP @ 7000 rpm, 5 speed MTX Factory non-sunroof, non-cruise, non-heated, non powered seats, non-HK sound upgrade. This was the most basic M3 you could buy aside from a LTW. If it were a 4-door it would also have been the lightest. Hi, at the beginning, the owner mentions that the e46 six speed gearbox y almost the same than the e36, I mean you can swap it straight forward. I have an euro-spec e36 and need a new gearbox, so… can you help me getting the info if the e46 six speed gearbox works on the e36?

tote adauy it's a relatively straightforward swap. there is a lot of information on it since it's quite common. for the US 5 spds. ..I'd just keep the 5 spd box.its stronger. unless you do a lot of highway cruising. for euro cars the e46 box would be a good choice if something is wrong on your stock gearbox.

Euphorica Got it. My gearbox had a strange noise and we opened it... in the process some gears were lost and know the only solution is the e46 gearbox 'cause finding an e36 original six speed has been a very dificult task.
