Supercharged FPV GS Test Drive

I want one. We take a drive in the new supercharged FPV GS and I tip that this is going to be the new 'tuner' car of the next decade. It's got alot of bang for it's relative low $56,000 price tag. In stock form they have 315kw at the flywheel, but it seems that FPV might be telling a little white lie about that, because it certainly feels like it's got alot more.
Is it any good? Simple answer; yes, I'd have one, just make mine an auto., but i'd take a manual if you twisted my arm. :)

Good review. Picked up my GS just over 3 weeks ago. Had it tuned. It had the factory 260kw at the wheels. After just a tune and change the air filter to a K&N, the end result was 406rwkw @9.5 psi. Best car I have ever owned and driven.

i got a ute 4 weeks ago and flash tuned it straight away. mage 119 RWKW its now got 381.2 KW AT THE WHEELS. massive power for $800

Have owned mine for 7 yrs and still love driving my beast had it tuned and an xforce cat back fitted,365 killer wasps on the dyno...

BEST review I've seen of this car yet! Also, cottonballs over the mic work great to reduce wind noise. Great Vid.

Was taken for a test drive in one of these and was stoked. No one should comment unless they've been for a drive in this. No question it is fun and good for the price. More after market goods to come and impressive numbers with it. That's his point. Great video. Great car. I just wish it had two exhaust pipes out the back aesthetically. That's the only part I'd change. Would look way better.

Yes I agree with the hot day, but honestly hot days affect all vehicles not just turbos. Take off and low down acceleration are dramatically affected, but when you're on the open highway doing 100ks there's really no effect with the temperature (I've found anyway).

Yeah, the interior isn't great but that's what you get for basing it off a family car. But I like the subtle exterior styling. I'd even remove the stripes and go full sleeper-style.

@PSRBF6 Can't say I've ever heard that one. Usually you get Carbon Monoxide out the exhaust, not Carbon Dioxide.

Yeah, I think it was a Sunday. If feels like a lifetime ago I did this. It's a pity i don't get more press cars to try out.

@pfcrobinson Unfortunately no, the Mustang hasn;t been sold new in Australia for a very long time. All we have is private imports which have to be converted to right hand drive.

XR6 is a nice car but given the choice I'd probably go for the GS, the F6 on the other hand is awesome.

@roflex2 Petrol is an alcohol and it has heaps of C's, O's and H's. When you burn it in air (Oxygen/O) the O from the air joins up with the H's in the petrol to make H2O. The O's from the petrol and air join with the C's in the petrol to make CO2. It's very simple really.

@lakrohbro Mate it's just a shirt, I'm not a Ford guy or a Holden guy, yet I've owned both, I'm actually a Chrysler guy. Considering the dollars involved I thought the interior was quite good. Does HSV make a factory supercharged Clubsport?

The FGX XR8 would have sold really well in the USA if R & D $ was put into LHD. The Aussies certainly saved the best to last, future GTHO with regards to collectability especially with 6 speed manual 😢

@redlinr1 no such thing as factory HSV supercharged , walkinshaw is a separate company, just like kpm, and kpm has a tuned GS to over 500 kw....

@lakrohbro The only negative I would have with this car is the stripe package, which I think it pretty average, but the rest is awesome. If I had the money, I would buy one tomorrow, and it would be a six speed auto.

@blownhemi Carbon Monoxide comes out when there is incomplete combustion. So like when the fuel is running too rich for the amount of air coming into the engine.

@IAmSkip94 no it is not uncommon, you are right. But yeah i was jsut saying that FPV bother with the SC to make a quick car out of the factory door. If they left the car naturally aspirated with just the 5.0 it'd still be hella fast.

@blownhemi Top vid mate and top car, got mine a week ago XD. Just to answer your question there is a HSV supercharged clubsport by Walkinshaw. Not sure if it comes out of the HSV factory though.

@blownhemi OK, maybe. Because in Chemistry I learned that when you burn a fuel in oxygen you get co2 and water. What do you reckon?

@IAmSkip94 To make a readily available monster engine car. Not sure if you've just walked to a dealer, slapped down 55K and walked out with a car that puts down crazy numbers, is a comfortable and looks good but it's a sick feeling. With minimal work you could break 500rwkw with the fpv.

Im looking at getting one of these. You can get them now for $49,990 brand new. Only bad thing, im 21 and insurance will cost a bomb. How does it drive compared to the xr6 turbo? I know the xr6t has 270kw but is there really much difference?

@PSRBF6 That is not always the case. You are talking about COMPLETE combustion which is when you get CO2 + H20. But Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion. With INCOMPLETE combustion you also get soot (black grimy stuff - literally just carbon) on the lining of your exhaust. Keep studying hard in chem peace

@blownhemi He's dead on - complete combustion produces carbon dioxide and water, but incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide as well (and sometimes just carbon, but that's not so common with car engines anymore). Car engines produce water, Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide at the exhaust.

yes there is a blown cluby by walkinshaw HSV Clubsport R8 by Walkinshaw Performance Price guide (not including statutory and government charges): $117,288 no doubt the clubby is a good car but ........ i`ll have the gs thanks.

dont see many of these where i live (country town) looks like Ford got it right FINALLY..after the hopeless 5.4Litre but im sorry if you ask me the best "new" performance Ford ever made was the T-3 AU Falcons, Ford took the best 5.0litre of all time the mighty Windsor and stroked it..N/A it had 250kw, in a 1600kg car, altho there aged and not as quick now there just a raw car and id take one over a new FG Supercharged in a split second wouldnt even think twice about it

@IAmSkip94 Not really mate. The HSV is expensive just like the FPV but it doesn't come with the supercharger. You can get good numbers out of them but you'd be forking out a lot of dollar.

The GS looks better than the GT, plus the only difference in engine is the tune! Buy a GS (no stickers), get it tuned, and you already have something faster than a GT that looks nicer (more understated) and is faster! Bargin.

i bought a GS ute from SINCLAIR FORD about 4 weeks ago, two days later i gave it to John at INTUNE MOTORSPORT to flash tune. the stock DYNO run showed that my gs ute had 261KW at the wheels, after FLASH TUNING it made 381.2KW AT THE WHEELS. This car is awesome!!! BEST BANG FOR BUCK !!!!! check the video out on youtube. SUPERCHARGED FPV GS UTE

@IAmSkip94 well yeah you just tweak the computer setting, it takes 4 minutes. The 5.0L is highly underpowered. Well yeah it can mean shit to you but we've done it and it works. Hell the FPV isn't even intercooled.

@lakrohbro Dont think holden make a supercharged clubsport. They got the superclubie. But they only cost small coin like 120-135k...hahaha. Id rather buy the gs and spend the other 60-70k on it and have something that does time travell.

i should have used more words, but i meant they dont make this in a V6 because ford dont make RWD V6 engines they make Inline6 engines. They do how ever make v8's,so if you see a falcon/fairmont/whatever with a V sonfiguration its going to be the V8

@IAmSkip94 The FPV doesn't match the HSV. It absolute destroys it. If you removed the forced induction you would see the cars being evenly matched. Hell i've seen them dyno'd a billion times mate. They're essentially the same cars the HSV and the FPV. It just depends what you decide to strap onto them. I don't understand why people care so much about comparing the two.

@IAmSkip94 Let's not even start on the laptimes of the Mustang vs the Camaro. The Boss absolutely creams on the Camaro mate on a track and on a straight. And they're roughly the same price in the US. My mate at intune dyno's FPV's all the time and they pull an easy 400rwkw out of the factory door with no mods. The HSV doesn't even come close to that at forced induction. We slapped on a Harrop to one of the natural HSV's and it was pulling around 400 as well. There is no difference.

@IAmSkip94 Maybe not comparable interior and equipment wise, but these things more than shit on any of HSV's top performance cars eg. Senator, GTS, etc. I have a stock BA XR6 Turbo and I don't even get hassled by any of the new HSVs with it.

@IAmSkip94 Lol I don't deny the bogan comment..then again you can't say every HSV I've lined up with since owning my Ford was driven by an idiot! Only car that's beat me so far in my XR6T was a Supra, and that thing was worked off its nut!! I've always been an early HSV fan and I like any car as long as its quick, but after owning several Holdens, this is my first Ford and I genuinely think this is the best performance car out of the lot of them!

315kw with 70% throttle lol... 90% of the power gains they get when they "tune" them is allow the throttle to open fully. Bit of a crock but i guess it keeps ford's r&d down when hsv brings out something with 5 or 10kw more - just give her 5% more throttle fellas.

ford also dont produce this car with a v configuration engine. They make inline 6's and V8s
