400hp? Check. Mid-engine? Check. Manual transmission? Check. A supercharged Acura NSX, Porsche Cayman GT4, and Audi R8 V8 are 3 different answers to a specific problem. Let's find out which is best. Instagram: / zygrene

It's crazy how beautiful the NSX looked next to 2 modern super cars, such a timeless design!

I think that one car that's missing here and would be best on that road is a Lotus Evora 400. That would be my choice.

Would be neat to try out a JDM NSX Type-R... totally different car from the USDM ones if Best Motoring is anything to go by! The Zanardi edition we got in 1999 is basically a USDM Type S, that would be neat as well.

After driving the GT4 and R8 V8 manual myself, I agree on the GT4. However, I love that gated shifter and how relaxed the R8 is (although the shifter throws are little too long). The NSX is too raw and less refined compared to these more modern examples. I love 1st gen NSX but when you drive all of them with no bias, it’s hard to pick anything but the GT4 - it just does everything better for a drivers car imo. Honestly, if the NSX had closer steering ratio (similar to AP2 ratio) it would be amazing.

90s cars will always have a raw, bare bones feel compared to newer cars. The comment on the NSX steering reminds me of my old ITR. It took a lot of turning the wheel to make it turn which sucked. As a s2000 and GT4 owner, I agree the GT4 is a s2000 on steroids.

Zygrene if you a choice between the GT4 and a 2020 Nsx which one would you choose
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
NSX for daily, GT4 for track. Based on my current situation it would be a coin flip! Both great cars.
@ahemgee95423 жыл бұрын
330whp is similar to what the others will be making. R8 V8 420 bhp and the GT4 381. With quattro AWD losses the R8 would be similar power to the Honda at the wheels.

The NSX was way ahead of it's time in terms of looks. It honestly holds up so well to modern supercars. In my opinion it looks better than them but I'm a bit biased as a Honda boy

I think you'll have a different perspective if you were testing an 02-05 NSX SC vs the 94. The older gen shows it's age but with the 02-05, I think it'll make up what is missing in the 94.
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting thought. The quicker variable power steering on the NA2 might make it feel a bit more modern. I hated the lack of steering feedback last time I drove an NA2 however.

Is it a huge difference between the 987 and the GT4 driving wise?
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
Yes. 987 S steering, suspension, brakes, and shifter all feel clumsy and soft by comparison. These can all be addressed in the aftermarket but the GT4 gives me an overwhelming feeling that it needs nothing at all. Except maybe a shorter 2nd gear.
@bingoberra183 жыл бұрын
@@Zygrene Nice, would be interesting to hear your impression on a 981S and 718S aswell :) I have a feeling a 981S would be a great somewhat affordable but very capable car. But the 718 seems to depreciate more because of subaru sounds, so maybe that is the one to go for if its "cheap". The GT4 is a step up in performance but the step up in price is what bothers me, its out of my league personally.

@@Zygrene I was hoping you were going to discuss that a bit more in the video. I have owned many Porsches over 20 years and have a 2008 Cayman S. There is no denying that 10 years of Porsche refinement and build quality can be felt between your 2006 Cayman S and 2016 GT4. More refinement every year is what Porsche does best, but comparing your 2006 Cayman S with stock 18 inch wheels/tires, stock shifter, suspension, and brakes is comparing apples and oranges to a GT4 with racing suspension, short shifter, massive brakes and larger engine. You already mentioned that your clumsy/soft controls can be addressed with aftermarket upgrades or just freshening up some old/tired oem parts. That is exactly what I have done over the years and I have continued to refine my 2008 Cayman S with lower springs, fresh oem suspension components, 19 inch wheels, short shift kit and slight bump in power to keep it exciting and fun and closer to Cayman R specs. For not that much money you can upgrade some components that will dial out some of that "clumsy/soft/tired" parts feeling. It will never be a GT4, but the fun factor can be raised a few notches for sure. Is the GT4 that much more fun that you would trade in a dialed in 987 S / Cayman R plus an additional $75 thousand dollars??? I love the GT4 and I could swing it now, but not sure I would feel the fun factor gained was worth $75k. just my humble opinion.

Am I crazy or is a v8 awd car weighing 3600lbs far from "heavy".
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
It's all relative. The GT4 weighs 29xx and the NSX probably about the same. I could definitely feel the extra 600 lbs in the corners.
@aevans1483 жыл бұрын
Lol @ Americans thinking 3600 lbs isn't heavy 😂 anything past 1500 kg is considered heavy here in the UK. I'll keep my 1200 kg performance cars, thanks. Audi R8s are way over rated to drive anyway 🤷♂️
