Dude, that talk was packed chock-a-block with information. It was a fast delivery but you saved me time. Typically, I would have needed a couple of hours to comprehend the same by reading. Are you a teacher/lecturer/professor ? The video also had its funny moments with expression like "hot puppy" and " 24 hour amazon delivery". Keep up the good work and your talent!

This is the future of power generation. I would like to know more aout the corrosive effect of co2 on metal. If it is a hermetically sealed system, then moisture, which when misxed with co2 produces carbonic acid, should not be a factor. Also if this was combined with a graphine heat extraction method, instead of EGS, then a geothermal plant could be located anywhere in the world with no imputes and no pollution. This presentation is the most well thought out and lucid I have seen yet. Good Job.

Again with the semi truck example. SF6 must be subjected to conditions above its critical temperature and critical pressure. The critical temperature for SF6 is approximately 45.55°C (114°F), and the critical pressure is about 3.78 MPa (37.8 bar or 548 psi). In the supercritical phase, SF6 exhibits properties of both gases and liquids. CO2 density at 31c and 74 bar 0.468g/cm3, H2o at 374c and 221 bar 0.322 g/cm3, SF6 44.55c and 37.8bar 0.74 g/cm3.

3:19 That's Ben Krasnow's homemade 2000PSI pressure cell from Applied Science. Thank god it did not explode during testing. One "sealing technology" challenge here is how to have an axle that does not allow the CO2 to leak but without gaskets that would cause so much friction. Magnetic gears are possible but the vessel walls are too thick. Contain the entire setup in supercritical CO2? Maybe

Without a doubts on the theoretical level sCO2 is a great technology. However, the presentation should not start with inaccurate statements: Modern (Supercritical) Rankine steam cycle delivers 40% thermal efficiency and more. (i.e. not 33% as claimed in presentation). Further more the presentation talks about early stages of sCO2 cycle development: supercritical discharge from turbine. As in Rankine cycle sCO2 today is designed to have turbine discharge pressure well below supercritical CO2 (e.g., ~400 psia vs critical P=1070 psia) with the only purpose to increase the efficiency. Note the Low-Pressure steam turbine delivers almost 50% of electrical output of a modern steam power plant. While I am still in favor of sCO2 cycle the main question remains: where would the CO2 in supercritical state would come from to compensate such cycle working fluid losses. Keep in mind that working fluid for steam cycle requires only chemical treatment. Getting supercritical CO2 is a high energy consumption process. I wounder what is the impact on overall system efficiency assuming 2% CO2 leakage in the system. (Note, a regular air compression system is usually designed for 15% leakage).

Could it be potentially feasible to use the Brayton or Rankine Cycle to produce electricity for semi trucks thus reducing the parasitic loads from alternator, pumps etc. It takes for example (40% efficiency) 93kw of power to drive down road at 62mph but a total power output of 232.5kw of power must be generated. This leaves 139.5kw of power that does not go directly to moving truck. There are about 10kw of power that go to run things like alternator (estimate using duty cycle), pumps etc. If you could get decent efficiency with the Brayton cycle maybe you could generate the 19kw of power need for a dual zone reefer trailer.

Dude just use series hybrid system like Edison Motors topsy. for even more power add thermal energy recovery system from F1 to to truck {turbocharger with a motor generator unit & restriction on Turbo as most has a lot of subsystem to tame it down so it does not go to "RUN AWAY" but you let it and slow the RPM buy putting LOAD on it } its now common in shipping . @@s2tenglish I guess I should have added I assumed a reduction gearbox would be involved. I know it's lower power, but I've flown aircraft with Honeywell TPE331 turboprop and they reduce the rpm from 40,000 to 1600, with specifically on the one I flew it was 715 horsepower. I know they have models in excess of 1000 hp, which would be 746 kW. It's a bit lower than 10 MW, but the development of that must be cheaper than huge steam condensers?
