When I was a young tech employee in the early 90s, who at that point had only spent half my life at with ANY kind of access to computers, I was surprised and later appalled at how many of my friends started letting their young kids anywhere near a modem, blackberry, etc. Now the tablets and social junk are really messing with their heads, they'll never know what real life was like. No frame of reference as to what normal is.

Parents should assume some responsibility in allowing their children to have the degree of access to all social media outlets, violent gun centered video games, tik tok, Twitter phone apps, tablets, smart phones, lap tops, desk top computers and any other electronic device(s). Use the Parental Control options on all devices for all children under the age of 18. There is no requirement that children before that age must have an electronic device ,cell phone, or smart device. Restricting the use of this type of equipment starts at the Parental level then the social media industry.

Sometimes there are porn of women that may in fact be 18 to 20 that happens to look like they are 14, 15, or 16 years old. The process to even verify that can take weeks or months to investigate and prove. This is why it is a lot harder to prove. Perhaps, for platforms that allows people of all age that NO PORN of any kind should be on such a site, period. So if it flagged and such a warning would be placed, it should just be removed because it is porn regardless of whether or not the person is underage or of age. So the content should not even be on such a platform. A platform that would have any porn should be a platform that requires age verification requiring photo ID verification along with web cam verification that you are the person on the ID card like exam proctors do.

I had no phone during high school. Limited mainly censored internet access. And parental controls on the TV. Guess what? I still found a way to play GTA and right under my parents' noses. Finally got Facebook and they had no clue. Still watched things they'd be terrified of behind their backs. Lead me to lose trust in them. For life. Because the positives of things they censored from me I missed out on in critical years of my life and that created some social isolation/awkwardness which in turn is quite damaging when jobs these days are very dependent on who you know. It's parents like these who also then lose their shit their children can't find work/don't know how to move out when they're older. Mine got lucky that I figured that part out cause many don't. Go look up what Amish kids choose when they grow up. Cause they're left with a choice. Go see how it works out. Now porn is being foisted upon school age chlidren in a way that hooks them, at school, with friends, and at home. Parents are not ever present helicoptering to monitor their cell phone use. Unless you are with your teen 100% of time then they will be exposed to social media. Although not allowed in our home all their friends have it and they see it at school. I have sat down and talked with my kids about why important to avoid it. My kids told me they 1st saw nudity from friends social media in 6th grade. No picture is good enough because all their friends use "filters to make them look better". Parents are trying but it is an uphill battle daily.

it's definitely not cool and I've been on the internet long before all the advanced content filters so I've stumbled upon some pretty horrific stuff but I also think that it is slightly ignorant to never see any of that stuff in your life considering these tragic events are common around the world. For example, I always wanted a motorcycle even though my parents would tell me constantly how dangerous it was. It wasn't until I accidently saw a couple videos of uncensored motorcycle accidents and what happened to the people that I realized how dangerous and deadly they can be and it made me take them much more seriously. I fully understood what was at risk and what the possibilities could be. That's why I'd probably show my kids some MILD videos of drunk driving accidents instead of just telling them not to drink and drive... Or MILD videos of people overdosing instead of just telling them not to do drugs. It's all fun and games and "oh that could never happen to me" until you actually see it happen. I feel like instead of trying to hammer it in over and over that they shouldn't do something, it would be better to just sit them down and say "look at what happened here" and let them draw their own conclusions. At least that's what worked for me so to each their own I suppose.
