Trivia: the five Grand Sports didn’t have the fender flares when they were completed. They straddled the timeline of very rapid growth in the width of racing tires, so the flares were a hasty addition. Grady Davis first drove a Grand Sport in competition (at Marlboro, I think) on skinny tires with kidney bean Halibrands. Profile of the wheel openings pre-flare was similar to the original Stingrays, with the bit of straight edge on the top. Source - Karl Ludvigsen’s book, Corvette - America’s Star Spangled Sports Car.

It was Never a 7/8 body don't perpetuate that myth. If it was it would be almost 18 inchs shorter then a 1963 split window coupe. I was around Jim Halls shop when he received one to test on his track in Midland Texas. I saw a 63 fullie sitting next to the Grand Sport. They were way lighter but never smaller.

Same story with the Yunick NASCAR 1966 Chevelle. 7/8 scale would have stuck out like a sore thumb. A little disappointing that these guys would say that.
