Two different animals. Pete Brock was brought in for the creation of the Superformance Coupe. From the start it was never a replica or a race car but a chance for Pete to create a modern street version. I much prefer the Superformance hood bulge to the original so I’ve created one on my coupe but think FF nailed it with the gen 3 redesign and improved body

I own both a Factory Five roadster and a Superformance roadsrer so I'm no stranger to both companies. (EDIT: I wrote the next sentence before I actually listened to your whole video!) The Factory Five Daytona is a race car that you can drive on the street. The Superformance is the other way around. Some say it's a "real car" - it has gasketed windows that roll up, you can actually drive in the rain, it has modern 3-point seatbels, and it even has a dome light. I've heard more than one automotive journalist say that the Superformance Daytona is not worth the $180,000 price tag.

Neither one is bad. Just different. Thank you for the comment. I do drive mine in the rain and it does leak a little bit of water. All in the fun.

@@cobradaytonabuild1671 Agreed, quite different. For a 300 mile drive, I take the Superformance. It has IRS, the seats are softer, and you can really feel & hear how it is a quality, factory built car. Around Willow Springs raceway, I'm a full 12 seconds faster on a laptime in the Factory 5, even though the Superformance has 150 more horsepower. I've driven several Factory Five Daytona's before but unfortunately I've never driven a Superformance Daytona.

I don't know if someone already said it, but the first Daytona Coupe is CSX2287. The other 5 are: CSX2299, CSX2300, CSX2601, CSX2602, and CSX2286

No roll up windows for me. I like the race car look they factory five windows have.

It's funny, I built a FF5 cobra and it was great car. I have nothing but love for factory five....But I much prefer the Superformance coupe to the type 65, never really thought they nailed the styling on it.

As a fellow Factory Five Coupe owner, can't disagree with any of your comments. Suspect our Superformance friends wouldn't agree with some of it. 😁 Then there's the whole "built in a factory by professionals, not in my garage..." which I've received first hand several times. But a well built Factory Five holds its own and if you're willing to do the work, can't argue with the price difference. Thanks for the shout-out BTW.

Well as an old hotrodder/racer, Im an old man now, and I much prefer a car with roll-up windows, air, and the amenities, having wanted a Daytona since they first came out when I was a boy I think I would have to go with Superformance, even Carol Shelby ordered one with an automatic...

Superformance for you. That’s the beauty of these two cars. Ones a more refined street car and the other is a race car you can drive on the street.

Yeah mate I strongly agree with you. FFR chassis perhaps may not be as close as the original Daytona, but they are definetely much better than SPF. SPF doesn't have a roller top cage but only the rear roll-bar like a roadster car, so much weaker on top than FFR. Another thing is that for SPF cars it's quite impossible to have a look at their chassis (no photos), they want to keep everything under a sort of reservedness. Same thing with car pices! Factory Five details everything with photos and prices. I think it's the real choice.

Phil Spector was the music producer who at one time owned the US built Daytona. I believe it was also street legal.

Both are awesome representations and don’t necessarily need to be “compared” as both have standalone attributes. The Type 65 example is clearly more in step with the original spartan race bred look & feel while the Shelby Legendary Cars example has been reimagined by the original designers Peter Brock “body” & Bob Negstad “chassis” as more of a comfortable gentlemans tourer. The type 65 is defined as a kit car, whereas the Shelby Legendary Car is defined as a continuation model that carries a CSX (Carroll Shelby Export) chassis number which goes into the Shelby world registry. Both examples are fantastic and in turn stand in and offer a different place in the market. Not everyone has the time nor the experience to build their own car requiring a multifaceted skill level. The type 65 is more suited as an autocross or track car. The Shelby Legendary Car would be a better choice to drive across country in. I can definitely understand why some people would prefer the Type 65 and I can clearly see why some people would prefer the Shelby Legendary Car. I personally like the new design & fit and finish of the composite version of the Shelby Legendary Car CSX9000 version. It would be nice if you could order the Type 65 with an aluminium body that would be supreme. Shelby Legendary Cars does offer an aluminium body barebones race version which is a thing to behold. I would have bought one if I could have afforded it which I can’t ($500,000) so I have placed an order for a Shelby Legendary Car CSX9000 which I am excited about. Prestige Motorsport in North Carolina have assembled an all Shelby all aluminium 427 ~ 8 stack fuel injected 584hp engine for it. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They have done a great video on my actual engine I will leave a link to it below. I live in Australia and am super excited as mine will be the very first CSX9000 to be brought here. My car starts getting assembled in March 2023. I’ve been following your car build and channel since day one keep up the good work your attention to detail skill level & general knowledge is very impressive. Watched the video! Impressive engine. Your coupe will be a handful for sure. Great having someone from Australia watching and commenting, thank you. Your comments are spot on and it’s a great choice no matter which one someone chooses. You will have a great car and so cool being the first in Australia.

Malcolm, I like both cars and each have their strengths and attributes. I also went with a Superformance Daytona Coupe. Mine just finished final assembly and will get shipped here in the USA in the next few months. I was contemplating a GT40 or Daytona coupe but went with the Daytona because the GT40 has no doors locks, ground clearance can be a problem etc. I went with V's Performance in CA that Superformance uses. Doug from Superformance has been great and a big help. Your build starts in May 2023 which I know your excited about for sure! I have a friend that has a FFR Daytona, and it is a super sweet car. We both have various cars and we each have different tastes.

Your opening shot showed them face to face of each other and that is what I was hoping for. Hopefully one day a comparison like that can happen. I like both of them. Wish Factory Five would make theirs with roll up windows. The Superformance used to Be $130,000 for the car without engine and trans not that long ago. Now they are $180,000.

I didn’t know they cost 180k now. Crazy money. To be clear, the photo was taken at the Shelby American museum in Las Vegas and I think one was a superformance the other a kirkam.

Just want to clarify as I did get a quote for a Superformance one last year. They were about $158,000 and by the time that you add drivetrain it was just over $200,000. I heard the prices have jumped up even higher now. You're right crazy money for sure! Love the channel!

Fortunately the aftermarket surrounding FFR is really strong. If you want power windows FormaCars has a kit for the mk3

You know, I'm living in Italy and believe me... It's really impossible for me here to get the current price of a Superformance Gt40 or Daytona Coup. I really don't know (today...) how much a Superformance is priced! I'm sending emails to Hillbank (no reply). Here no reference, no prices in euros to compare with US prices, nothing. There is only a European Shelby American/ Superformance distrubutor in Belgium thousands km away from my town, but they need a phone call. Long way and a huge waste of money for car assistance and services. Impossible for us to have these beautiful cars!

I’ve been following both factory five and two performance for a long time and I kept second-guessing myself whether or not I wanted to buy the Daytona coupe from factory five because every time I saw super formance I would think the car is not so good looking. I finally did realize it was the back end that looks like a big bubble that I don’t care for😂

I looked hard at F5 and the screen hump to roof doesn’t cut it for me especially the wheels with nuts showing or those cover up hubs which look cheap. The Superformance let’s it’s down with the door handles, exterior and interior. Fuel cap is on the other side. The front head on lower lights re too small which makes it look strange to me. The Superformance is more luxurious inside so to speak etc, more fitting to taking the grandkids in. Both cars are a pain to see out the side wing mirrors unless you get the Brock tennis racquet ones, treat really stick out. The choice for me is leaning towards a Kirkham, won’t go for the ‘Shelby’ as pointless for the extra bucks. Looking at two other companies making all metal bodies using the Caro shells from Poland.

Brock is a zealot for aerodynamic efficiency. His choice is likely based on that, even if the advantage is negligible. To me the Superformance 65 has a more 'bubbly' 60s look to it, almost like a Jag E-type, whereas the Factory Five 65 has a slightly more modern wedge look. In profile (only) the Factory Five looks strikingly similar to a Datsun 240z. IMHO only. I'm just a fan.

My understanding about when the blueprints were sent to Europe for fabrication, Ford forgot to tell them which measuring system to use. So, being Europe, they used Metric instead of Standard. So they all ended up much smaller than built in the US. Not sure if this is true or not, but sounds like the type of oversight Ford would make.

They are all the same size or really close. The Italians decided to change the roof lines as they didn’t think it looked good. Maybe some other things as well.

Ford had nothing to do with designing or outsourcing to the Italians the making of the daytona coupe. Ford actually made Shelby American stop working on and developing the daytonas to focus solely on the GT40.

My FFR Daytona Coupe was the coolest looking car I have ever owned and the worst car for reliability. It was like owning a boat. So glad to get rid of that POS.
