No need to apologize. I liked the reaction vid and it is a bit cringe watching that back. Not having a cancel button is a dark pattern, but I overreacted when I saw this reacts. Appreciate breaking down why you like and use it. Probably still isn't for me, but maybe it is for someone else. Cheers!

It should be illegal to not offer instantaneous cancellations to subscription products.

I agree with Theo, serving a very small group with extremely high needs/expectations requires this attention to detail. If it ain't intended for the masses then the rules change

Not having a cancel button is actually illegal in Europe While 24h is not much with regards to email exchanges, this wouldn't even have been an issue if the process was streamlined as it should have been Highlighting this is fair and did not deserve berating

I agree with most of what you say Theo, tech people forget the human side of things. But if you are going to make a product for people like that, then there is no Easter Sunday.

No cancel button - I can understand the skepticism. I get the “until recently they were hands on” piece, but the vast majority of “subscribe in 2second, cancel via some convoluted way” is always to prevent the churn. So by making it an email without an automated and instant “hey you won’t be billed again but we’ll be in touch” I would also be skeptical since you can’t know they are good about it until you try it. Feels like something they could maximise on though - we will always cancel straight up, but we want it to work for you so we will come back to you! Other than that it seemed a little unnecessary in terms of going after them for being predatory. Chris already had all the info, so pretty L review.

You are not completely wrong here. He did miss the billing link. He is being biased and unfair to a new company. But you also turned a 2 minute clip into a 30 minute video. You’re trying to dunk on a guy’s passing thoughts on a company lol.

I think if superhuman is very upfront in their advertisement and download page about having a "human emphasis", then it's probably fair for them to have the manual email thing for unsubscribing. But otherwise I think it's reasonable for the average person to feel annoyed/confused or even see it as potentially predatory behavior that there isn't an instant way to unsubscribe. I understand that some business may need or benefit from putting their foot in the door, but I don't think that necessarily justifies the behavior. Some beginner content creators post spam on big youtube channels because "it's the only way I can get more eyes on my content". But it's still not the way to go about it. If I go to a restaurant and before I can leave a person blocks the door and urges me to reconsider if I want to buy anything else before letting me go, I would get defensive. Even if they say "well of course we weren't going to force you to stay" and apologize afterwards. Because there was no agreement beforehand that they would have the final say on whether I can leave or not (except if this was communicated since the beginning as part of the experience) I think that's probably the main thing that could be criticized about it. All in all, it's probably not predatory. But I can completely understand the negative reaction from someone new to the product and I think they could improve on making the unsubscribing process more "reassuring" for users. I also liked that they offer the cheaper simplehuman version for people that may just want the keyboard shortcuts

I send nearly as many emails as you. I'm a diehard pc/android user. You couldn't give me an iPhone, and yes I've had to use one for work before as well as a mac so I have comparative experience. I do have an iPad which I admittedly think is a far superior product to the tablet, but I keep it totally separate from my work. So, my question, is this product for me? I use my phone when traveling for email but largely use a desktop for all my work. Is this product going to annoy me or really help?

Fuck subscription programs! I’ll gladly BUY a Quality tool, but nobody makes one for email.

Don't call stopping a subscription that has to be done by mail a "good experience" if it doesn't instantly stop the subscription, even after they read the mail. I do understand that they'd love to know why someone wants to stop their subscription, but... It's like all those programs, you click unsub > "hey you can it at a discount" > no thx > "you sure you want to unsub?" > yes > get pop up "tell us why" > don't fill in form. And most don't fill it in as they simply don't care enough to give their opinion, but the experience was simple and fast. - It not being easily accessible (small text link, next to other text & link with same color, on dark ui...) - it not being instant - them taking action when having read the mail, but going "we switched you to a cheaper price, let us know"...that's not what was asked to occur And heck, I dislike "hey you could use it cheaper" as a whole, but can just be me ^^ If it could have been cheaper, it should've done so beforehand, while being a "happy" customer, not when I already decided to stop using it as a whole, because at that point, I'm already done with it.
