Superimposing Pentatonics Tutorial (amazing results!)

Something amazing and mysterious happens when we superimpose the Pentatonic scale over
multiple chords. In this video we explore the sounds created when C minor pentatonic is superimposed over Dbmaj7b5, F-7, Abmaj7, Eb add9, Bb7 sus 4 and C7#9.
It is quite incredible how the same notes sound so different depending over which harmony and groove they are played.

Your interest in the sounds produced when combining a pentatonic scale with other chords is enlightening. IMHO, the more you appreciate sounds such as intervals over whatever scale or just simply "making music" over just one chord is a fabulous learning experience that will help you improvising.

Excellent practice material. I've purchased several of your course but...the download itself is a chore. Wish you packaged each course as a zip file that contained the entire course content instead of having to load several series of files individually. Otherwise the courses are great!

Exelente información como podríamos encontrarla en en español suy un seguidor de tus vídeos pero la mayoría están en inglés y es muy complicado el proceso de asimilación de información muchas gracias por tu trabajo

enrealidad en el Dbmaj7 la 5ta no es bemol, sino que la 11na es aumentada (es un Db lydio y la escala funciona porque corresponde con el Cm frigio) asi que la notacion correcta seria Dbmaj7#11

no, the chord I played does not contain an Ab so the notation is correct Dbmaj7 b5

@@JazzDuets bueno, pero tranquilamente puede ser un omit5 es comun en voicings de jazz, de todas formas, suponiendo que realmente fuera Dbmaj7b5, que escala usarias entonces sobre el acorde, que no fuera la pentatonica? Es decir, de que modo vendría?

@@JazzDuets There is so much you can do with standards: chord tones, arpeggios, triad pairs, pentatonics==> all voice lead. Looking forward to what you can do with it Nick.

As a music educator, I’m gonna inject my two sense: I think the beauty of what Nick does with these sounds is showing the concept in the broadest way possible. I love showing my students this channel because I can tell them to learn the sound and apply where it seems possible. There are other places one can go to learn standards. Plus, Nick is great not just because of the presentation but what he chooses to present.
