I read somewhere that the song is Chino hating the sun, literally. He would stay up all night writing music. He’d board up his windows with aluminum foil.

Blood & Soil ooohh yeah, southern arizona here, 110 percent relate. I took the meaning of the song as pretty literally hating summer and having a version of a summer in my own head where there isn’t bright sunlight beating down pretty much every single day making life miserable, or summer where I can look up to the sky without my eyes feeling like they’re being squeezed. I’m envious of those people who have summers that don’t top 95°, just like they are envious of my winter. At least I’ve never sunburned before, perk of being Mexican lol

This is one of their most iconic videos. This song is a classic! I live in Santiago, Chile, South America, in the capital, the only city with no beach in the country and surrounded by big skyscrapers and asphalt, mountains and hills, so the heat of the summer is a literal tourture to me (i'm allergic to sun) so this song is my summer anthem. According to thedeftones.com, this was written in Seattle during the hot summer of 1994. Trapped inside of his room by the heat and sun, Chino Moreno boarded up his windows with aluminum foil and wished for "An apocalyptic-type thing" where all of the people on the streets would disappear and the sun would go away. He called this dream world "his own summer," which is where the song title comes from.

I saw this in other videos but check out Crosses, Palms & Team Sleep. All great projects by Chino. Also his duet with Sevendust on the song Bender. For something different but still good, Breaking Benjamin. And for heavier but technical Gojira, who is touring with Deftones this year. Good stuff, can't wait to see more!

2 hits the 6 = 2:30, usually the hottest point in the day in the summer. The song is one of the few literal deftones songs

Haha this was a bit of a serve with the more chilled verse and then the riffy ‘Shove it!’ Part.- along with the Shark themed video. Interesting take lyrically, Australian Summer is nearly here as of my comment (starting December). Apparently this was also on The Matrix soundtrack.

Not one of their more complex songs, but they had a killer riff, built on it, layered in some local range, catchy, relatable lyrics, and made a classic. Did you record Hole in the Earth, yet? That also has a video, was kind of a hit, but considerably more complex as a later work.

I find it kind of weird really that this is the only album where Chino really does the whole "whisper singing" or sings really softly like in some other songs on the album. Though, because of that, Around the Fur is my second favorite album, behind their self-titled album.
