From what I remember that was kind of what most people in Universe thought. He was operating at all times of day. All over the world. The idea that he was just always Superman and always up to something or watching out for stuff was just kind of the norm people expected.

Given how comics like to pull old characters and do some rebooting and retcons, it wouldn't be impossible to do something like that. Have 'em be computer-class mates with some teenage heroes, make 'em your standard hackers or maybe one of them's a minor technopath or constantly fiddling with technology in their spare time and inventing things via computer bits. Have them first discover their capabilities through dismantling or working on a TSR-80 computer. Make 'em fans of Cyborg, or use them in a story involving Cyborg Superman, or something. All the bits are there, they just need to grab and do what comic writers do and think up something wild.

I'm not sure about the timing of that, but wasn't that knee-deep in the edgelord phases of the mid-2000s and early 2010s? When you consider what goes into reproduction and the crapshoot of a specific sperm fertilzing the egg at the right time, it's actually far more likely he WOULDN'T exist in this timeline. All it takes is one thing to occur differently on the night he was conceived (e.g. Dr. Wayne had an emergency call) and he'd never be born. While it would be nice to see the night in Crime Alley with a Superboy instead of young Bruce present, it's possible that night didn't happen because young Kal El might not have been interested in Zorro or was already busy as Superboy so they just never went to the movies.

Being out of business doesn't remove the ownership of intellectual property. Such ownership becomes an asset that is sold off along with the rest of the company's assets when the company is liquidated. Plus, if you originated the intellectual property, it's not "licensed" - you own the rights until you transfer them. I just checked what has happened with Radio Shack since bankruptcy, and it appears that the company which purchased them in 2015, General wireless, has decided to relaunch Radio Shack as a mostly online marketplace, with some physical presence within Hobbytown USA locations. I have no idea how well they're doing monetarily, but it is likely that the rights for the Tandy Whiz Kids resides with General Wireless. The copyright doesn't expire for 95 years from first publication (because US copyright law is stupid because of lobbying by The Mouse), so expiration of the copyright isn't a possibility here.

Legally, maybe you'd wanna just go up to the new owners and say "hey, you guys got this when you bought Radio Shack. I'll pay you for the rights"

@@roguishpaladin The thing is that if you excluded the mention of the Tandy brand and don't refer to them ans Whiz Kids, there's probably nothing to prevent using them as they are a couple of generic kids with fairly common names. Some things just can't be trademarked or copyrighted because they're too common.
