Superman becomes a Super Merman in this classic silver age DC comics tale. It's no secret that Clark Kent never got over his telepathic mermaid ex girlfriend Lori Lemaris. When circumstances seem to put them together again is there any hope for Lois Lane to still land the Man of Steel. You are right about the friend zone. I am still surprised that DC Comics decided to marry Lois Lane and Superman. I know that everybody believes that Lois Lane is married to Clark kent and not to Superman.

Batman/Catwoman was married a long time before Catwoman was murdered and Batman also died. Bruce Wayne as Batman suppose to wrote a book about the Justice Society 'Of America that didn't put a good light on the group

I have a theory that Lori doesn't summon Aquaman, not because he's lame, but because there's mistrust over which Atlanteans consider themselves the "real" Atlanteans. Kind of like when the Byzantines would ask knights from the Holy Roman Empire for help, and it'd just get interpreted as an opportunity to pillage.

Yeah, you are right about the depiction of the fin on the mer-people in this issue, as being as if they have two legs inside the fin. They even draw them as having two knees - When a traditional mermaid would of course have the same number of knees as a fish : zero . 🤔🤷‍♂️🐟 🧜‍♀️

Having multiple contradictory Atlantises seems to have just been a thing in the Silver Age. Marvel also had an issue where Iron Man visited an Atlantis that had absolutely nothing to do with Namor.

Well, it's perfectly legit for merpeople to have multiple nations, rather than 70% of of the planet all just be one group. Especially so in DC, where you've got multiple different species of merpeople (some who are classic mermaids like Lori, and others who are basically super-strong humans with gills like Aquaman).

Lori Lemaris was actually in the very first Superman comic I ever read. I knew nothing of the character or of her past as a mermaid or telepath and I felt very uncomfortable with Superman near any woman that wasn't Lois. Suddenly, with the context of her past crazy behavior, I think I understand why.

I never read a Lois Lane comic book growing up in the early 70s because I considered them written for girls and didn't care for them. Having said that, the Lois Lane proposal/marriage videos that Sasha has done over the years are my favorites! I love the perspective not only of the crazy relationship that those two are depicted as having had but the take on the rest of the supporting cast! Thank you so much for a much-needed laugh at the end of the day!

My favorite Lori and Superman moment was when they first met in college. And it was written by Bill Finger. It showed what a good writer he was! He could write sentimental stories like this, as well as dark stories in the 1940's Batman Comics..

I love the way superman broke the news to Lori that her Husband is dead! Though..I guess she knew alright thanks to the telepath powers..yeah..that sucks..like..there is no way to safely break bad news or keep a present a surpize..takes the romance out of proposals..I imagine merpeople just mind sharing romantic events in their life then not actually going through with them because..well..what's the point? (Random mermaid talking to another): "Oh yes..he thought a romantic proposal out by the coral reef, where he reveled a clam full of engaging pearls to me! It was conceptually breathtaking! As in I took steady, regular breaths as I reviewed the concept in his mind while he came up with it and gave my silent (because it's telapthy), approval." Clark's shouting at Lori what she already knows the second he shows up while also processing the news of her hisbands death strategy must have been the most unique proposal a mermaid has gotten in thousands of years!

I am surprised there was no reference to Aquaman since this is the same year as the debut of the JLA and the modern DC universe. Before it seems crossovers with other DC characters were limited to Superman and Batman. One head canon explanation (already suggested) is there were tensions between Tritonis (Lori's city) and Posideonis (Aquaman's city). This was discussed in Peter David's Atlantis seried. I like you Star Trek references. Please consider Casually Trek.

Something else to consider with this ridiculousness: how the merfolk are dressed. As in, there's zero difference between how they'd be dressing if they were contemporary American humans or, in that one guy's case, from an arbitrary "future" society. Comics of this era are SO bound to formula on everyday crap that they can't even TRY to have different clothing - or lack thereof that most consider mers to have.

I’m with ya! I seem to remember Supergirl and Wonder Woman having Mer~Man stalkers. And,if I’m not mistaken, one of the thumbnail illustrations came from that time Superboy was turned into a Mer~Man in the 70’s. And then there was the Crisis deaths of Both Tula (Aquagirl) and Lori!
