They should re-release this in theaters right now (Sept. 2022) We need this even more than we needed "Top Gun: Maverick". I'd pay to see it again on the big screen.

The greatest cinematic opening ever in the history of motion pictures! And the greatest opening theme song in motion picture history! Nothing more uplifting than this. Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck when I hear it rest in peace Christopher Reeve!

Yes. I was a 12 y/o boy when my parents took me to this in the theater. Heroic actions were still portrayed un-cynically, with a hope to inspire people. It was very exciting. it was a great time to be a young person. Now, decades later, I am a "man of a certain age". But listening to John Williams' rousing orchestration, it brings a tear of joy & remembrance to that wondrous time.

Rest in peace Richard Donner about time somebody acknowledged his death for if not for Donner we wouldn’t have had an amazing, iconic academy award winning setting new standards using technology before which had never been done bringing on Mario Puzo to do a better script an iconic script, iconic story and Donners vision was to have brainiac and Supergirl in Superman III if not for the Salkinds and Richard Lester ruining that idea, HE WAS THE GREATEST THE MOST LEGENDARY DIRECTOR IN SUPERHERO HISTORY and the only one who could have done Superman and Superman II The original cut in 2000 and it just blows the Richard lester Superman II out the window, I can’t watch Richard Lesters theatrical version of Superman II it’s pathetic with the terrorists in Eiffel Tower it’s already swaying away from the source material as Superman would have stopped the terrorists well before they tried to detonate the bombs, I miss him as I’d have conversations with him on twitter he always made time for what are my favourite movies in my life, I grew up with Christopher reeve and Superman since a kid, my lass the other day made me so jealous she’d never seen Superman so she got to watch it for the first time I’d give anything to see Superman movies for first time again, she absolutely adored it, even had tears in her eyes and goosebumps, brilliant all down to Richard Donner, we miss you especially for listening to us fans on internet and releasing the Richard Donner Superman II cut but we miss you for all you’ve done imagine Superman with the first jokey cheesy script, imagine it without Christopher reeves imagine it without John williams score, imagine it without that epic greatest intro to any movie in all of motion picture, everything had to piece together perfect or we wouldn’t even know it RIP To a Legend of cinema, the best

I love how at first you can only hear vague suggestions of the main theme in the instrumentation. And then, it builds to the famous theme. Wonderful work by John Williams.

It's also a contractual obligation, as the highest paid actors on the set were usually credited first. That is also why Jack Nicholson gets top billing on Batman (1989) ahead of Michael Keaton.

Except for the part where they butchered the pitch and added those whooshes that are far too loud. It would be ok if they used them, but more subtly. Here's what the original sounded like. Note the correct pitch: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdR-ZtlemLuRiGQ.html

This film may have been a source of redemption for Richard Donner, but I personally can never forgive him for making his biggest mistake ever, and by that I am referring to “THE OMEN”. In scripture in Revelation it says that the dreaded one will indeed be abandoned by his mother, but he will be raised by a maternal uncle who’s an army officer, and getting him adopted by an American couple linked to the diplomatic corps is just taking dramatic licensing too far.

Beautiful great work!! You got as perfect a reproduction as I've seen anywhere!! Is there a title effects add-on or program or online site that can make the Superman titles automatically to the users input? Input the text and choose the colors and the directions, up/down, etc? There are now for other movie title sequences of the past but I haven't found one for Superman : The Movie ( 1978 ). Maybe you can give us a great Supertutorial!!

Why did they change the pitch? This sounds ok, but the original without the pitch-change sounds loads better.

They had to speed up the pitch due to last minute deletions from the credits.
