Respect for Sajam shutting down the "yeah but what if..." rabbit hole before it gets too deep. You can "yeah but what if..." into infinity. It's What If's all the way down if you let it. The sheer amount of "but what if they..." questions that exist at all times really melts people's brains. You can't answer absolutely everything with a single option. And if you could you're playing an actual 10:0 match up so what are you here asking questions for? Just win the game. Work on the things in front of you and accept that you'll be wrong sometimes because that is quite literally the game.

Street Fighter 6 is built in such a way that *nothing* has 0 risk to it. Even things that had very low chances of failing in previous street fighters like well-timed meaty buttons *can* be punished hard if read properly... so don't worry about having a 0 risk option, just do your best to cover as many options as possible and adjust based on your opponent's habits. If someone keeps smoking you with something you don't have an answer for then it's time to bust out the training room and find an answer, because I guarantee everything has one... even if that answer is just blocking and going back to neutral.

The "yeah but what if" effect is so annoying and self-defeating in every game. People want some kind of universal cure-all to every situation, and if they're given specific counterplay to a specific situation, they go "well yeah but that's invalidated if they do [completely different situation]." Like, that ain't the situation we're even talking about.
@VannTango
@VannTango Жыл бұрын
Sometimes people aren't trying to "Yeah, but what if" you, they just want to understand what their opponent can do to beat this. It helps a lot of people figure out what they need to prepare for when they incorporate this strat into their game. Not everybody wants to learn a RPS situation by doing it over and over in online matches and getting smoked until they get it.
@Jerails
@Jerails Жыл бұрын
To be fair, asking the "yeah but what if" is pretty much the quickest way you can figure out most scenarios. Just like real RPS, "At the start, you played rock." "Yeah, but what if my opponent chose paper?" "Then you'd lose that interaction, next time you can play scissors." "Yeah, but if they respond to scissors with rock?" "Then you can respond to the rock with paper next time." "Yeah, but then what if they choose scissors?" "Well, now we're back to your starting play of rock." "Then how can I win?" "By playing the move that beats the move you expect them to play, instead of playing as if your opponent already beat you. Now you're playing RPS."
@JackVolt
@JackVolt Жыл бұрын
"Yeah, but what if they do nothing?" is not somebody trying to understand the situation, it's somebody asking to be spoonfed. That's why Sajam got annoyed. Then he gave one possible random thing to do in that situation (hit them) as one example out of many possible options, and he IMMEDIATELY gets hit with another "yeah but what if they parry" If you don't want to learn the game by playing it over and over then maybe you just don't want to play the game in the first place.
@GriFFonRec4
@GriFFonRec4 Жыл бұрын
The "but what if" questions aren't those though. "How do I keep someone in the corner if they keep jumping out?" is a good question. Maybe it just never occurred to you that backing up and holding space is a legitimately good pressure option in the corner. "But what if they neutral jump and parry" is just looking to be spoon fed, and yeah, maybe you DO need to get smoked by it until you can choose another option that can beat it. A better question might be "how do I deal with parry" if you legitimately don't know the mechanics of the game, "but what if..." seems more like you know the answer, you just don't think it's a good option because it loses to another one (in 99% of cases).
@janner2006
@janner2006 Жыл бұрын
If there's a scenario or a series of scenarios you're unaware of how you're supposed to respond in certain matchups, you can always just enter training mode for a bit and look through your options. And if the response is "but what if I don't want to spend X amount of time in training mode to learn every matchup?" then just play online and you'll learn over time through your wins and losses. And if the response to that is "but what if I don't want to lose my online matches?" then just don't get worked up over a couple of losses. There will always be scenarios you might find unfamiliar and how you choose to respond to those in the future is up to you. It's not Sajam's or anyone else's responsbility.

I know this is far from always being the case but I often get the vibe of “yeah, but what if they do X instead of Y, Mister Clever Streamer Man, hm? Your tech isn’t flawless, is it now?” There’s always going to be counterplay and risk of making the wrong decision. That’s why your character has more than one point of health and you have the ability to rematch in case you do make all the wrong choices. No one wants to lose but if you don’t want to expect counterplay or facing an opponent who might not do what you want them to do, why not just sit in training mode forever?

Dunno if you play Cammy but if you do, watch Punk's guide on her, he points out how to use it. tl;dw is that it's best used when they're in the corner and you can space it more easily (you always want to hit them in the shins or toes for better frame advantage). Practice spacing it right and confirming it into combo's from training mode. There's some ways to "auto-space" yourself so that divekick hits more easily like triple jab in the corner.
