Mr Salles spelt quotations wrong on purpose. It "symbolises" how in our literature essays we should always spell things right as that will get us the very top grades. Here’s another one for supernatural, idk if i repeated anything but yeah. the supernatural is presented as an overpowering force that influences role reversal performances which then leads to tragedy.this can be shown when lady macbeth persuaded macbeth to “loook like the innocent close but be the serpent under it” the simile of an innocent flower is a metaphor for the prophecies of the witches and how they’re viewed as truths that mean no harm as they’re great prophecies. The prophecies enforce macbeth to grow into his desire and this influence of his desire can also be interpreted as the flower. This description of the flower is also quite dramatic hence why it creates irony which can be seen later on in the play when macbeth realises the witches prophecies we’re not true ,and dies. This is a deliberate placement of his death as it creates a catharsis for the audience to introduce justice to the natural order which was overthrown by the supernatural power of the witches . The imperative to be the serpent is an imagery of the serpent from the original sin when adam and eve ate from the forbidden tree, the witches similarly have manipulating qualities like the serpent and so therefore is the reason people sin and lead them to their hamarthia which shakespeare importantly uses to illustrate the nobles in king james’ court to not act against the divine right of kings as it is like the original sin. As the jacobean’s feared the witches they didn’t want to be a part of their influence and so shakespeare’s aim is to explore the influence of the supernatural forces.

Another thing to mention about your last point about Macduff being evil; Lady Macduff calls him a "traitor" and says he should be "hanged". When she's asked by her son she says that the "honest man should hang up them". This is really interesting, as it echoes the language of the Porter knocking at Macbeth's door talking about the "Farmer who hung himself on expectation of plenty" - generally seen as a metaphor describing Macbeth! It's almost ironic how Lady Macduff's description of what she wants his fate to be is almost exactly what Macbeths is, even mirroring the language describing Macbeth. This relates to the whole motif of "Fair is foul, foul is fair" - that which seemed fair, Macduff, is also foul. The ending which seems fair, may also be foul, as violence begets violence - perhaps the whole play is cyclic and doomed to repeat itself?

if any of year 11s 2022 watching this i know it may be about the supernatural so you can use the dagger as a motif and metaphor that represents macbeths guilt, this creates an interlinking with the motif of blood and as shakespeare uses these semantic fields of death he foreshadows the tragic ending of the play which is a catharsis ( a cleansing) and they all die to go for the ideology of king james as he hated the supernatural and even made a book about it to bring justice to the religious nobles and kings and reinforce the divine right of kings. The motifs can also represent the strength of the supernatural as blood starts rotting when it sits on gold or silver for too long(the dagger) and this reinforces the aims of the witches “fair is foul and foul is fair”, the gold is natural and fair whereas blood and rotting is foul and so shakespeare strengthens the barrier between supernatural forces and morals to influence nobels to not commit this act.

for the dagger scene - could u say thatthe fact that he cant 'clutch thee' is an oppurtunity for macbeth to choose whether to turn to evil. throughout the play, the supernatural gives him the oppurtunity to sin rather than instruction - it is macbeths choice/ free will, which leads to his downfall

Hi Mr Salles, i wrote an essay about the theme of nature in Frankenstein and would really appreciate to see what you think! Shelley’s influenced Romantic beliefs are vividly exposed in her novel Frankenstein, through her depiction of nature’s healing power. This is first evident when Victor says, ‘These sublime and magnificent scenes afforded me the greatest consolation that I was capable of receiving’. The noun ‘consolation’ connotes comfort and sympathy, which suggests that Victor was in a horrific mental state as nothing provided him comfort except the power and elegance of nature. This is ironic as Victor says before that ‘Elizabeth alone had the power to draw me from these fits’ which undermines the importance of woman in their society. The phrase ‘sublime and magnificent scenes’ highlights Shelley’s use of significant descriptive language to convey her beliefs in nature to stand out. Shelley uses a hyperbole to exaggerate how Victor was able to be healed by nature. The modern reader would link Victor’s ‘consolation’ to Prometheus who was punished by having his liver eaten by an eagle every day. In ancient Greece, a liver was thought to be connected to emotions, so the metaphorical punishment here is the daily emotional torment Victor faces. Even though Victor is comforted by nature, he still criticises it when he says, ‘They elevated me from all littleness of feeling, and although they did not remove my grief, they subdued and tranquilized it’. The comforting verb ‘tranquillized’ connotes soothing and calming down, which highlights nature’s power as it is able to make Victor forget his misery. The metaphorical phrase ‘they elevated me’ connotes helping and aiding as nature is perhaps personified as a doctor who is helping Victor, however this is ironic as Victor himself is a doctor but cannot cure himself. The modern reader would begin to realise how he is criticising nature even though it cures him. This makes the contemporary reader enrage as they see Victor oppose nature even when it is helping him. Shelley exposes Victor’s reaction to nature’s beauty to be significantly similar to his obsession with knowledge. This vividly exposes to the reader Shelley’s Romantic beliefs. Victor’s disbelief in nature’s beauty is exposed in the extract when he says, ‘The abrupt sides of vast mountains were before me; the icy wall of the glacier overhung me’. The adjective ‘abrupt’ connotes sudden and immediate, which highlights nature’s power as it is surprising, and fascinating compared to an ordinary man. The phrase ‘were before me’ is ambiguous as it could literally mean that the mountains were behind him or could mean that he views the power of nature to be inferior to him as he is in front of it. Shelley uses a metaphor to create a vivid image to the reader of nature’s beauty. The contemporary romantic reader would feel agitated as they see Victor’s mockery of nature’s power. Alternatively, the modern reader, further away from the Romantic movement, wouldn’t be as offended as the significance of nature has declined in the modern society. Victor continues to perhaps mock the power of nature when he says, ‘the solemn silence of this glorious presence - chamber of the imperial nature was broken only by the brawling waves’. The alliterative phrase ‘solemn silence’ highlights how Victor mocks nature as he mentions its ‘silence’ perhaps meaning its non-attendance which undermines its power. The adjective ‘imperial’ connotes royal and monarchical, which is ambiguous as it could be Victor appreciating nature’s power or could be him mocking it by saying its monarchical, and as Shelley was an atheist and kings were seen as God’s representatives on Earth, this could be a way Shelley criticises Christianity. The modern reader would begin to contextually link Victor to Prometheus who rebelled against God, when he gave human race fire. This is similar to how Victor is rebelling and mocking nature and its power through religious references.

Best thing to be doing right now before the exam?

Since exams start this week and i want to do as much practice as possible, i wrote this story as a last piece of my writing revision. It would be really helpful if you could make a video suggesting me ideas that would improve my writing to a higher level and also what I've done well so far. Bravery: Darkness was overcoming light. The unusual but powerful feeling struck against David. He had expectations, like being able to do activities that normal people wouldn't want to do. Despite his expectations, his body had surrendered to his brain; his brain that was completely scared to step out of its comfort zone. His lazy arm loosely hung on the iron bars of his shoulders, which had tightly glued itself around the edge of his spine. Sitting on an old sofa, his posture, which was previously like a trained soldiers' , had changed; he hunched as if his energy had been drained out of him by the untouchable gravity like he had been meters' under the sea. Atmosphere is changing; he is no longer the prisoner of the immense cold. David is now in control of himself, his arms, his spine and the most important: his fear. Every morning, the blood vessels hurry to each and every cell, providing him with energy so the iron bars on his shoulders can't rip apart the fragile skin. Bones crack from his immense training so they could rebuild to become stronger; and, so that gravity could no longer feel heavy. Muscles have gripped him so strong, stronger than the skin of a rhino, that now he has already stepped out of his comfort zone. "Why? Why didn't I make this decision earlier?" David shouted across the hollow hall containing heavy gym equipment. Even strong and rigid walls couldn't stop the sound from escaping outside. "Finally! Thank you God." His voice echoed, almost making it sound like God speaking his own words to him. In future, David will look back at this moment and remember how he challenged his inner turmoil, his unusual but powerful feeling to fulfill his expectations. His posture was improved, but he will never forget how sitting on that old sofa made him weak, discouraged and engulfed in darkness. I will be willing to learn from your advice. Thank You

Hi sir, on 1:58 can we say the witches speak in trochaic tetrameter? Also can u tell me if I can also include this idea : Lady Macbeth and witches work side by side and are reliant on each other due to the rules of the patriarchal society, hence Lady Macbeth calls upon the supernatural (the witches) when she wants to gain power and in reverse the witches possibly know they don’t actually have any power , therefore planting the idea of Macbeth’s fate in his mind so that he can call upon LM , Shakespeare’s motive being that women are dependent on each other to obtain power in this patriarchal society weather it be unattractive ‘powerful’ women like witches or attractive powerless women like LM.
