Very well done, not only does this prove that the Supersoil works well, it also shows how depleted in nutrients the spent potato compost is.

I think a really valid comparison might be to rejuvanate old compost with (say) blood fish and bone fertiliser, and compare that with supersoil in a similar blind trial.

Good idea, I do this every year with my potato composts using Q4. Remember that Supersoil is not a fertiliser, it is billions of microbes improving the soil. It does not add any nutrients.

@@DigwellGreenfingers thanks but I’ve just ordered 100grms of the new Max Strength SuperSoil. It didn’t come with any instructions am awaiting reply on how best to apply. My lawn is mainly on clay and about 250sq mts. Have you ever used it as a spray on product?

weeeell, my tunnel soil was so depleted and chicken-sick. As I said to you it came in as 'lo' on the ph and nothing else. Everything has come up brilliantly and growing strong. But... I did lime the soil under the well-rotted branded farmyard manure and fed it with chicken manure pellets as well, however, there is only about 2 inches of compost on it so I'm pretty sure it has done a really good job as I just didn't expect to have a good year in the tunnel. There was so much in it in the packet though I ended up putting it in my water barrels, and a bit goes on every time I water the front and back garden now. I think as it is so expensive, and not many of us want to do the 6 acres that it will cover, they may find it useful to maybe do half-size packets. But I'm pretty astounded with the whole garden. We have had it very hot, with heavy rain showers too. So who knows? But I'm pleased with what I thought would be a rubbish year. Thanks for the trial DG, I have chivied a few people your way who are complaining about compost etc 😁

Brilliant, thanks A-J 🙂. The results will only improve over time as the microbes do their business and multiply. I have split my packet and given away 10g here and there. 10g is more than enough for the average allotment. I do kick myself at not leaving one of my beds untreated to see the difference on a larger scale but I know Alan (Dawn Chorus Plot) is doing that so fingers crossed for him. @@DigwellGreenfingers Yes, I do too really, but I was just so desperate to get this long-awaited for tunnel planted up. I can't wait to see Alan's results too. I only have the neighbours to give it to, haha, they look at me weirdly already - I daren't chance giving any to them 😁. Where I live they'd probably smoke it 🤣

Speaking of can't teach an old dog new tricks - neighbouring plot holder complaining to me about having to weed for a few hours everytime she visits her plot - try no dig I say, it really helps with the weeds - ----- the reply "I've been doing it this way for 28 years" Jeez!

@@DigwellGreenfingers we just watched Terry's aswell. Gotta to ask, do you think if he had added his own plant food (free-ish), would the results as dramatic? (And he actually may have used his own teas) It's undeniable that supersoil is effective, so I guess what I'm trying to ask is: will you continue to buy, and use it ? Cheers Steve

@@clivesconundrumgarden Most definitely yes - I will continue to buy and use. I felt that the visible results would not be as dramatic if I used a compost/soil that was already "healthy" and I wanted to exploit one of the sales pitches of Supersoil ie "These magical microbes suck nitrogen out of the air, bring nutrients ( NPK & trace elements ) to the plant and create rich, dark soil known as humus. Supersoil also brings the soils PH back into balance" and I think I did that 😁 Yes, I think the results would be even better if the compost were fed with NK etc as well (IMHO) Stay safe guys

@@DigwellGreenfingers totally agree, microbes are magic !! But don't they create the texture of the soil that the roots through diffusion and/or mass flow uptake the nutrients? I realize the end result is the same and it speaks for itself. Just trying to understand the mechanics and order of creating the healthiest plants possible. This is super interesting to me, thanks for sharing this and as you know, I'd love to see more of these. Btw Coco Coir just hit $800 USD wholesale for a compressed yard delivered from Pakistan. Wtf !!

@@clivesconundrumgarden Different microbes do different jobs. Some of the ones in Supersoil pull N2 out of the atmosphere and others stabilise the soil pH. Tiny little magicians LOL A little bird told me, on the grapevine, that the results from certain long term potting compost trials using it were so bad that the EU country is seeking to ban it!

I noticed the colour and growth on my trial on the salad crops in my Square Foot Garden beds Steve so yes a cabbage may be a good one. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Great idea! I expect it will be the same as the last Supersoil chemical tests but worth a go - I'll try to remember to save the compost in 3 months time.

It would I agree. Something to try in future but bear in mind that fertilisers need applying often, Supersoil is a one off application. Have a great week

Interesting comparisons, but I use up old compost all the time and just add blood fish and bone to the compost plus mix in a little homemade compost and get good results but a lot cheaper. So I’m not sure I would pay for super soil still need convincing. Thanks for the thought provoking video though I always find your videos interesting to watch.

First time of watching your videos and found the super soil trials you did to be very interesting. I'm tempted to try it but its very expensive although I see a small amount goes a very long way. Do you know if you can store what you don't use and how long it will keep once you have opened the packet? Thanks. Trevor.

Hi Trevor, glad you like the trials. Yes, the opened pouch can be resealed as it has a zip lock closure, but I transfer mine into a Kilner type jar as I find it easier to spoon out when I sent out small quantities to gardeners. My first pouch was opened in Sept 2021 and left in my tool store on the plot. I'm still using now but as soon as I know the official shelf life I'll be in touch. Speaking of which, if you scroll down (or up LOL) to the video notes you will see that I supply smaller quantities than the standard 100g if needed. If you are interested then drop me a line. It really is great stuff.

@@DigwellGreenfingers True, but most of us don't need enough supersoil for an acre, we only need an allotment's worth. Might be worth 'supersoiling' all of your allotments and seeing if you get better results on a larger scale. Cheers

I used a sprayer for my beds to get the 1:1000 dilution (one gram to one litre), Steve, but I guess the water butt would work if the same quantity of Supersoil went down per square metre.

I'm going to add to my water butts next time I water the potatoes and other beds and also add to each of my compost bins when they finish cooking. I'd love to know what the owner means by "quantum compression" though : All the best - Steve
