Back in 2012, Kobus Wiese sat down to chat with the late Joost van der Westhuizen. John Smit, Nick Mallett, Ashwin Willemse, Hugh Bladen, Justin Marshall, George Gregan, James Small, Hennie le Roux and Eugene van Wyk also paid tribute to him.

Rip my friend x My Rugby Idol growing up always wanted to be like him absolute talent and without a shadow of a doubt the best Scrum half the game as seen in my eyes and that's coming from someone that's Welsh WORLD CLASS .

Joost... Hoe se n mens dankie vir soveel goeie memories. N Hero vir soveel skool laaities. Maar tog ook net mens met foute soos ons almal. Jou woorde " Ons wil almal herken word in wat ons doen en almal wil he jy moet vir jou dankie se en well done, Dis nie waaroor die lewe gaan nie, As jy hier uitloop en jy smile vir iemand... I also suffer spinal muscle dystrophy. I feel what he went through. I am also stuggling. I keep brave you are unique as a rugby legend and also being brave with your days fighting. You are a true inspiration to me. What you went through makes me not afraid and you give me courage to fight on. RIP You are truly amasing.

I went to school with Joost, at FH Odendaal. They were gods at the time, winning so many matches against the richer schools in the area. Every moment of every break you would see Joost, Vlokkie and the boys just playing rugby. It was different times, golden times, God took a legend too soon.
