Supplementation For Nerve Regeneration - Accelerating Nerve Injury Recovery - Today I take a deep dive into the current research on supplementation for peripheral nerve recovery! While most traditional medications only target nerve pain and do nothing to improve the rate of recovery - there are supplements that have been studied that can actually accelerate nerve regeneration!

Folks not mentioned here but research it for yourself There are different types of ALA The one you want is ALA-R The “ R” is what to look for I’m surprised how many times I see that particular “ R” type is missed. Check it out !

just a little nit-pick. n-acetylcysteine is NAC, not NAD. NAD is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. Typo on your cheat sheet. Both are improtant though.

Type 1 diabetic here for 35 years. HBa1C running 11+ for years (yes I'm working on starting on a CGM). Started having severe nerve pain in my left leg (and a complete loss of temperature sensation there) about 2 years ago so my doc prescribed Alpha Lipoic Acid. ALA didn't do much frankly, so I decided to try adding Acetyl-L-Carnitine to the mix and WOW - my daily nerve pain went from 8 to about 1 with just 1500mg a day. I still don't have any sense of temperature in my left leg, but the reduction in nerve pain (pins and needles) has been a godsend really, so thankful to have discovered it. Hope this is helpful to someone.

@Linda Burchell There is some truth to that. However if your T3 and T4 output is normal and you have healthy Thyroid function then you're fine..The problem is more with interaction of Thyroid medications or with people who are already compromised in that regard.

This is a pretty good survey of nerve regeneration potential. However, the fact that too much Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine, or Pyridoxal forms) can cause peripheral neuropathy was not mentioned. This can occur with as little as 20 mg in some, and even with high doses coming from foods in a select few. Be safe out there!
@brianna094
@brianna094 Жыл бұрын
20 MG? I'm curious where you read that amount? The highest dose I read to be toxic says 1000 MG with the lowest being 100 MG. It's hard to say a specific amount as everyone's body chemistry is different, but I usually go by the lowest toxic dosage to be safe.

Thank You and God Bless!!! Now to get Doctors to actually be talking with their patients about all this. For example, my mother talks to her doctors about what I learn, because her doctor doesn't give any advice on diet, and then sends her to a specialist. If Doctors could freely speak out and tell us all what we need to know, and not in fear of their medical associations, life for many would be enhanced, IMHO. Great stuff here! Including the terminology to understand! TY!!!

I have severe lumbar spinal stenosis at multiple joints, which causes terrible low back and sciatic pain. I am trying to avoid surgery by doing daily stretching and exercise as well as taking the right supplements. I've been refining my supplement stack for the past year and it definitely helps. I am currently taking b complex, magnesium complex, vitamin c, ubiquinol, pqq, ala, and acetyl l-carnitine. These supplements taken together have the added benefit of improving overall health and longevity, so that's a bonus. I've only been been taking this group for a few weeks, but I've already seen a reduction in pain and better energy levels, despite the fact that I don't get much sleep. I hope everything continues to improve.

My son suffered a peroneal nerve injury due to open book pelvic fracture three months ago. Praying his nerve regenerates and he can walk again eventually! He's working really hard. I purchased R-ALA and he's taking that daily. I will look into the others mentioned. He already takes a multivitamin as well. I wonder why the hospital does not start giving some of these things IMMEDIATELY that stop apoptosis when someone comes in with a nerve injury?

I have diabetic neuropathy, I had severe claudication that prevented me from even walking 30 feet. I started using L-Carnitine, and L-Arginine, 500 mg, I now take 1000 mg in the morning because of Covid, I also take Berberine 500 mg three times a day. In three months I went from closed brachial arteries to wide open, the blueness of my big toes disappeared. I have numbness still in a few parts of my feet, I have never had sores on the bottom of my feet. I have just a little numbness left, and at times my feet feel a little cold, previously, before treatment I could walk on ice and not feel it. At 73, I can run or walk as far as I desire to do so. This also heals the heart, arteries, and will clean out the junk in your brain over time. This heals nerves! I have studied all medicine for 41 years. L-Carnitine will turn into Acetyl-Carnitine in the brain.

You have Schwannoma?? I have that as well! They didn’t know what I had after my biopsy, but they did a exploratory surgery to understand what the large tumors were growing in my leg. They ended up removing a nerve that ran from the bottom of my calf up to my knee (8” x 2.5”) and then the 3 inch diameter one inside my knee. It has left me with drop foot. There is total numbness in my calf down to my foot. They left the tumors in the opposite nerve because they said I’d be unable to use my leg at all, but the tumors continue to grow. I wish I understood schwannoma more, and especially if there is anything I can do to help regenerate my nerve growth. Dr’s continually turn me away because they have never dealt with this disease.

I had and sometimes appears again an epileptic shaking of the nerves. There are still nerves that are numb. I am not 100% healed from the nerve damage. Dear Dr.I am a 70 years old female. I have been diagnosed with Neuropathic facial pain, it started gradually over the last 2 years. I was given gabapentin but reacted badly ,now on pregablin. I wonder if any supplements would help me .I am in considerable pain. Regards from Oxford England.

Mrs Barker, sorry my bad English, gabapentin and pregabalin are useless medications at least for me too, with dangerous side effects. Try PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) . At three months I've got to diminish my neuropathic facial pain by 80%. Hope to get an 90% next moth. 600mg twice a day in between meals. Buy an ultramicronizaded or at least micronized form. Good luck Mrs Barker.

Dr Markel, I hope you get to see my message. A month and a half ago I went for a CTScan and the nurse accidentally blew my vein. I had an infiltration with the contrast and once the body absorbed the contrast and the swell went down I started having nerve pain, giving me tingling on both of my arms and legs. Do an ultrasound and the vein has healed but I continue to have pain on the inside of my left arm and also from the inside of my wrist to my elbow. The Dr requested an MRI and showed that my C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 has small perineural cysts and c-6-c7 I have a mild canal stenosis. Will these supplements would help with nerves and the tingling part? And for how long should I take to see some results? Thank you

Take 1/2 teaspoonful of baking soda daily for 3 days, then take 1/4 teaspoonful daily to help your body to get rid of any dye remaining in your body. This could possibly help you! I do not see how it would any harm. Do NOT take any more of the baking soda than this.

@@-xyz-012 fyi: aluminum is sometimes found in baking POWDER, NOT, NOT in baking soda! Just buy arm and hammer baking SODA, excellent reputation, been around since, I believe the 1800s, and cost less than a dollar. The NIH had a small study which started out with all participants in stage one kidney FAILURE. After a few years, the daily baking soda recipients had 6 that had progressed to stage 4 failure. The non baking soda group had 48 that were in stage 4. Results: “ further study needed” but “ who’s to do it” the back of the baking soda box tell us how to convert mg mentioned to a small fraction of a teaspoonful. A prominent transplant kidney specialist when I asked if he were in stage one failure , would he take daily baking soda, he said no. I. Believe the daily dose in teaspoonfuls was either 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoonful daily. I don’t believe either would cause any harm. See the study on google and research everything I said. There are also studies that show that taking baking soda , with the plenty of water recommended, reduces the probability of kidney failure following administered iv dye and others show help in severe infections. See the articles for dosing. Be careful high doses , high being more than 1/2 teaspoonful per day when administered more than a few days can cause severe illness and possibly death.

On Michigan Food Doctors channel it was revealed that there are three types of alpha lipoic acid: R-alpha lipoic acid R/S -Alpha lipoic Acid and S-alpha lipoic acid S-Alpha being described as a cheaper version, but being useless or even detrimental and being a scam. R/S Alpha is Said to be a Blend of both and also not recommendable.
