Supporters of Turkish opposition celebrate in the streets after election victories

4 ай бұрынRecep Tayyip Erdogan and his party suffered their biggest upset in more than two decades on Sunday as the opposition swept municipal elections in Istanbul and other major cities.
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) retained mayoral seats in two key cities - Istanbul and the capital, Ankara.
The CHP also gained 15 new mayoral seats in cities across the country, advancing in locales that were previously strongholds of the Turkish president and his AK Party (AKP), marking the worst defeat since the latter came to power 21 years ago.

countries with very different history and dynamics. turkey probably has a longer secular history than your country (I'm assuming Ireland). So the possbility of Turkey turning into Iran is absurd no matter who the government is.

Not that he would ever have the power (literal sharia wanting population of Turkey is roughly 12%) but one of the reasons was for sure people’s resentment towards violations of the secular principles of the country. Among some other very important reasons that is.

@@jaenalxoxo5559 Turkish diaspora are extremely nationalist and Islamist. Of course they’ll support the most extreme party without having to live under their terrible policies. There’s also the fact they’re a minority outside Turkey so they stick together as one, and their identity becomes very important.

As the founding father Atatürk said in his book Nutuk ("Oration"), only the young Turks could save the future of Turkey and they just did that with this election despite the vote stealing and thievery Erdogan has been doing since the last 20 years. So, the percentage difference between the opposition and the ruling party is actually much bigger in reality.

This is true but it’s a start! This is a heavy loss for akp (erdogans party) and is also the start of his party’s decline. If Imamoglu becomes candidate in the presidential elections in 2028 then erdogan has little to no chance of winning the elections.

Secondly, as this is a country where Turkish is the most widely spoken, I guess adhan should be in Turkish. Arabic isnt holy, it just suits with the rhythm, syllable and the harmony of adhan.

I am half Italian half Moroccan and I have met some Turks and they were very kind and respectful when they knew I am half Moroccan and that I visited the country. I don't know what is going on there, but If the Turkish people happy then I am happy for them. Greetings to Turkiye ❤

Some context for viewers who knows little about Turkey, when people talks about Ataturk, he's the founder of Turkey, he made sure that we were a secular country with western values. Thanks to him, we are not an Iran today. erdogan is the opposite... We had a great victory yesterday.

Who told India is in hands of dictator, People in India meaning majority voted for Modi, his approval rate is also the highest in the world and also he is the most popular leader in the world, how can a people voted leader be dictator. Also Modi's party is only in north side, while in south side its BJP never got a grip, that's how democracy works. If he was dictator that would be the best I think but he is not. Other than Modi,India doesn't have a good opposition or opposition leader, that's the problem. Even after all the opposition parties joined together and formed a alliance its totally usless.
