Biography:
Sheila Hopkins joined The Bell Foundation as a trainer in November 2020. She has previous experience as an EAL specialist in primary and secondary education and over 15 years of experience as a teacher educator in continued professional development and initial teacher training programmes at the university level in the United States. She holds an MA in TESOL along with qualifications in primary and ESL teaching. Among her most rewarding work has been the management of numerous grants providing training to teachers and administrators working with EAL students in partnership with local schools and education authorities. Her professional interests include academic language development through the lens of functional linguistics and promoting an assets-based approach to working with multilingual students and families.
