I'm a homeless tree worker, saving for property. I don't do any of the things you were talking about and stay away from those people too. I sleep in my truck and just hope this doesn't keep me from reaching my goal. Still have about 3 years until I have enough money.

I’ll pray it will happen sooner 🙏🏼✝️ but tree work isn’t easy work or an easy life necessarily. You kinda have to live it to make a living for sure. Don’t look over the echo pro saws either, they cut and can get the job done 👊🏼

When you guys talked about driving by the drug addicts saying it’s a teaching moment…Reminds me of the meme with A mom pointing at tree guys saying don’t end up like these guys and she turns around it’s too late. The kid has pit vipers and a cigarette saying “who dulled this saw”😂😂😂

Since state and local governments make all the rules that have driven the cost of living as well as the costs of starting a business, through the roof. I think homeless should be required to camp out on the various Capital lawns and City government property. Anywhere else and you get arrested and made to work picking up trash around town, maintaining public parks and beaches or a million other public projects that need doing. At the end you receive a check commensurate with the effort you put in. If we have enough money to send to other countries, we can afford to get people in good enough physical and mental shape to join the work force and give them back some dignity. I’ve been a Transportation Surveyor for more than thirty years and have worked in and around several thousand homeless and I’d say the majority would jump at the chance of a better life if it was available to them. Let’s face it, if you don’t have enough money for a vehicle, insurance, registration, and have a place to shower, sleep and wash clothes, you aren’t getting a meaningful job that pays enough to acquire those things. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I watch KZfaqrs who once a week visit overgrown homes, pathways and clear them, mow the grass, trim the bushes, it keeps the neighbourhood looking good, deters squatters. Some people fall on hard times, and need a little help. I’ve always thought that as well as mowing grass, hedge trimming, that some tree surgeons do the same or lease with a local lawn person who performs these things, so when there is a dead tree, or a fallen tree, they can call on the services to get it removed.

I grew up in Roseburg. I often tell people it must have been built on an Indian burial grounds because it was so poverty stricken and depressed. Drug addiction is a right of passage for young people there, you either somehow miraculously get out and get clean like I did or wind up dead or living in poverty like many of my childhood friends. The wind down of a once booming timber industry has left Oregon with very limited options for young people to make a living. Surprisingly it seems like the weed industry has provided a few jobs for many who might have ended up even worse off. Also, surprisingly Covid era work from home brought some tech people from CA to bolster the economy a little bit. I appreciate that you mostly shy from political conversation but it's hard to stay silent when the political landscape is having such a negative effect on all of our daily lives. If we don't all start talking about figuring out a solution for this mess instead of pointing the finger at the "other side" things are only going to get worse. The whole country is suffering with inflation caused by the insane spending by the last 2 administrations. When you print billions of dollars it makes every dollar less valuable. If people understood this they would never vote for the two clowns that got us into this mess by spending more than any previous presidents in history combined. Both Trump and Biden have done this and instead of taking responsibility they distract us with fringe issues that are causing major division between us. Everyone needs to seriously look into RFK Jr because he actually has a plan to bring our nation together on issues we can ALL agree on so that together we can solve our common problems like massive government spending, inflation, the drug epidemic, the border crisis, failed education system, and our chronic health epidemic.

Once you lose Public or Municipal space to the people who just don´t care about themselves or what anyone else has to do to accomodate THEM, you are on a sliding scale to Bedlam and lawlessness, and your family and other decent law-abiding folks pay the cost, either financially or through added stress or both. In frontier times old timey justice was served on such people. The standard was imposed by the citizenry themselves. I sometimes think it would do well to bring that back.

Sadly, the GP Police may be moving some of the homeless around, but they are not clearing homeless from the parks. The City Council seamlessly went from saying, "we can't do anything, there's an injunction" to "we can't do anything, there's this state law". In truth, some on the council have no problem with the state of things, so there's no real will on the council to clear the parks and I doubt there would be, even if they were clear to do so.

I kind of have an itch for something that will run a 36" chain, I'm guessing the 460 would do it. Running an old 038 Super right now and the 460 is exactly the same weight, I have found myself cutting a lot of larger wood lately. My wife would have apoplexy were I to buy another saw however, I should probably shed a few first. Anybody need a Sears David Bradley gear drive or Mac 10-10? Thanks for posting the vid Sir! Even in our little city, the police have had to move "tent cities". One was right along a railroad right-of-way at a major intersection. The city gave them 30 days to vacate. As I said, the police moved them. Some people don't want help. This is a way of life for them. They reject any help.

I live in the SF east bay, and we have the same problem as Grant's Pass. This used to be a pretty nice city to live in, but now there is a definite up tic in crime, vandalism, arson, pollution, and littering. I can't even go to any of the public parks without seeing someone slumped over on a park bench drooling, and what irks me is my property taxes go towards building, and maintaining these areas. I have no sympathy for dopers as drug use is a willful act.

Definitely a complex issue. On the one hand, needles and filth in play parks is not good. On the other, they are people with severe social issues. Some will benefit from the stick, but some are better helped with the carrot. Just pushing it down the road isn't the whole answer. Thoroughly recommend listening to Dr Gabor Maté, a compassionate human who worked with addicts in Vancouver and maintains that all addiction stems from childhood trauma. Aye, not easy. Some fine cutting.

Government forcing people to live in homes is not a free country…homelessness is a symptom of a free country…70% of the united states is 1 missing paycheck away from missing a mortgage payment…keep that in mind when we make these decisions. Convenient legislation as we enter into an era of home prices only the wealthiest can “afford”…if there is another recession, housing collapse…there will be many people homeless that never thought they would be. Its easy to pick on the most vulnerable if you cant empathize or picture yourself in a similar situation. The enforcement should be mental asylums, methadone clinics, rehab centers and mental health treatment.
@AugustHunicke
@AugustHunicke 15 күн бұрын
I like your heart. We were not talking about “homelessness.” We were talking in a general way about crime and individual accountability. Citizenship. I have lived in a tent at various points in my life. A tent is a shelter and sometimes an adventurous life choice. A tent dweller can abstain from the crimes of littering, theft, vandalism, abuse, etc. That said, sadly, making our sick government bigger won’t help our sick society. We’re broke and irresponsible as a country.
