Great video as always Maker! I'm pretty good friends with PunkShoo, so I grabbed a set of these right when the GB went live. Finally put them in a build after Christmas and loved them! Highly recommended for anyone thinking about picking some up. Lube helps with sound consistency, but they still sound great stock. Not using them right now, but I'm saving them for a retro themed Capsule65 build that I have coming in any day now.

its crazy how different pbt sounds to abs. pbt sounds like a dull thud and the abs caps are alive and have character.

Soldered these into the Class80. Between these and the SP STAR Uber crinkle, these have a deeper sound overall. One of my faves.

Happy to see your vids, one thing I wanna mention is I've also been manually checking the actual travel distance vs rated travel distance, and I'm surprised at how many switches I'm seeing around the 3.3-3.5mm travel distance instead of the rated 3.6-3.8mm travel distance haha generally it doesnt matter but since I use a break-in machine I actually do need to know the travel distance or else I can't set up properly, not a big issue at all even in usage but just something i noticed

what really made me paranoid was when tofutypes realized one of his early batches of a particular aflion switch (matcha lattes I think?) had very different pole lengths within the same batch

King of hard to use that comparison in any way when other variables are changed. Would be nice to see the other build components stay the same between sound tests

Totally! I use the same board in all my typing tests, although admittedly I’ve changed sound test boards to better fit the meta. The “todays build” portion isn’t really supposed to be a comparison as much as it is an idea of what the switches sound like in a different build from my sound test board (currently the arc60 with GMK keycaps)

Finally got around to using the batch of cream sodas I bought a few months ago and there are definitely noticeable spring crunch noises on the return stroke, even in the board.

Great video. I have an irrelevant (in correspondence with this particular video) question, though. You've recently reviewed Haimi's "Whisper" and "Heartbeat" switches: however, would you happen to have a set of [or experience with] Kalih's "Midnight Pro" switches that you'd be willing to compare with?

Filming its almost completely worthless on new gateron switches. Also the films don’t affect the sound; they affect the stability of the switch and the housing

How was the lubing consistency in your batch? Watched your review on Gateron Oil Kings and remember that your batch had inconsistent factory lube. Also, how would you compare these with oil kings? I imagine the bottom out is going to be extremely similar, and this would have a softer sounding return. Would you recommend these over the Gateron Oil Kings given the price?

Sorry for hte late reply! I personally prefer these over oil kings! I found the lube to be a little... lacking, but consistent! Haha. I'm not a huge fan of the PTFE oil that Gateron uses, I prefer a thicker lube for linears!

I don’t know if anyone is facing a similar issue with these switches, or could provide some advice, but my cream sodas sound and feel super mushy. They almost sound like silent switches.

Usually that’s a sign of overlubing; did you re-lube your switches? If they’re stock that’s kind of shocking because the PTFE oil based lube that Gateron uses makes it almost impossible to overlube!

Lube all four sides, the side rails all the way to the top and then just the protrusions on the front and back!

For something commemorative of the good old days, this is far off being another redundant longpole switch. The nuance in feel and sound between longpoles are almost non-existent, but I guess that wasn't the exact sentiment the maker was going for but literally cracking a cold one

Personally I prefer no audio boost on sound tests

The problem with no audio boost though IMHO is the levels are drastically lower compared to my spoken voice, because I normalize my audio to -18Lufs! I have found that even with the boost, my typing sounds are consistently 10-12dB quieter than my a-roll

@@MakerMods it’s easy to adjust the volume to hear better though. For me the boosted audio sound tests are like random explosions whenever I’m not fully paying attention. This is really jarring at night. And just the volume level doesn’t always tell who whole story between different types of sounds. Ideally the volume would be normalized between everything, but you’re right sometimes some parts will have to be louder or quieter. Either way will have its fans, but I was just giving my thoughts on the question since you elicited opinions

I really appreciate the feedback! Im working on my first video since changing my whole signal chain around, and I’ve found that the levels for the typing sounds are still -10dB peak, normalized to -18Lufs, so I guess that’s good! :D
