This song holds a special place in my life. I sang with a fine choral group in the late 2000s and, one year, we did this piece and it was beautiful. That year, I showed up with thyroid cancer and needed to have my thyroid removed which, of course, impacted my ability to sing for some time. During that time of recovery, I went to a concert where another fine local choir sang this piece and it brought me to tears. Now, I can't hear this but I tear up, hearing and feeling the beauty and richness of the song. Well done! Morten Lauridsen would approve!

God bless you, I pray you are managing your thyroid issues now and are cured from your cancer in Jesus Christ's name. You can always sing in your mind and heart, that can never be taken from you. Amen

This song reminds me so much of the 60's pop song "Cherish" by The Association...essentially, the same chord progression...lovely!

What does the line mean, "I weep for wonder, wondering far alone . . . for shadows on the stars"? Lauridsen's chords right there speak to a meaning like grief.

Again, the piano is too heavy, as the range of the piano Kay’s “easily” in the lAp of the pianist. This should be a cappella. The piano should not have its own voice. Yet in this, the director allows it. Too much competition from the piano.

The piano part is integral to the piece. For me there is no problem of balance. This is very beautifully sung and played. Maybe I'm biased, but I find the men's voices strikingly moving, like a fine cello section.

The piano part is not 'wallpaper', as you imply. The antiphonal interaction of piano and chorus is essential to the piece. As the Scots would say, "Whaur's yer heid, lad!?" You have posted similar comments on other YT performances of this work, including Lauridsen's own. I rather doubt that he would be moved to write the piano part out of his composition.
