Story:
G. K. Rayudu (Kamal Haasan) is a corrupt Mayor, and along with his assistant Tripathi (Charan Raj), takes a bribe, sells a market to a rich businessman, and forces the poor people doing business in the land to move out, threatening physical harm. Although Rayudu is married to Janaki (Srividya), he has a mistress. Rayudu knows that a journalist Sandhya (Vijayashanti) is investigating. He and his henchmen go to her place to destroy the evidence. She reveals to Rayudu that his mistress and Tripathi are married and have been cheating him out of his money for a long time. He finds Tripathi's stash of diamonds and takes it. After spending some time with his wife and kids, Rayudu gets a change of heart and decides to expose his and Tripathi's illegal activities. Before he leaves, he hides the diamonds inside one of his children's toys. Tripathi finds out, Rayudu in a fit of rage, and places the body in cold storage.
Panicking that soon people will realize that Rayudu is missing, Tripathi notices Rayudu's younger lookalike Chandram (Kamal Haasan) in a mental institution. Deducting that Chandram is faking his mental breakdown to beat a charge and avoid jail, they blackmail Chandram into playing Rayudu until a major deal is completed, and Tripathi gets a lot of money. Chandram is promised freedom if he is successful. Chandram learns Rayudu's speech and mannerisms, and with heavy prosthetics and makeup, he becomes a suitable double for the Mayor.

This is the only movie I ever saw first day 3rd show at SHANTHI THEATRE, NARAYANA GUDA, HYDERABAD on December 10, 1989. Seen 100+ times. Superb movie. 👌👌👌

చాలా బాగా పరిశీలిస్తే....ఈ సినిమా అమితాబ్ నటించిన సలీం జావేద్ ద్వయం సూపర్ స్టోరీ" డాన్ "ను "స్ఫూర్తిగా" కథ తయారు చేశారు అని తెలుస్తుంది. 1) డాన్ పాత్రను మేయర్ గా మార్చి చని పోయేటట్లు చేసి అలాగే తన తల్లి ఆపరేషన్ కోసం తప్పని సరై మేయర్ పాత్ర కోసం రాంబాబు పాత్ర వేసిన రెండో కమల్ హాసన్ వేశాడు. ఇదే విధంగా ఒక అనాధ పాప,బాబు కు మంచి భవిష్యత్ ఇవ్వడానికి కూడా వీధిలో గారడీ చేసుకుని బతికే రెండో అమితాబ్ ఎస్పీ చెప్పినట్లు డాన్ పాత్ర పోషించేందుకు ఒప్పుకుంటాడు. 3) అలాగే హీరోయిన్ విజయ శాంతి మేయర్ మీద కోపం తో అతనిని హత్య చేసేందుకు ప్రయత్నించి ఆ తర్వాత అసలు వాస్తవం మేయర్ చనిపోయాడని ఆ పాత్రలో రెండో కమల్ ఎందుకు నటించాల్సి వచ్చింది తెలుసుకుని అతని తోనే ప్రేమలో పడుతుంది. డాన్ సినిమాలో కూడా తన అన్న మరణానికి కారణ మైన డాన్ ను చంపడానికి ప్రయత్నించి ఆ తర్వాత ఆ పాత్రలో వేరే వ్యక్తి ఎందుకు నటించాల్సి వచ్చింది తెలుసుకుని అతనినే ప్రేమిస్తుంది. 3. మొత్తానికి చెడ్డ వానిగా పేరు పడ్డ డాన్ ను రెండో అమితాబ్ హీరో గా చివర్లో ముగిస్తాడు. అలాగే.... మేయర్ ను కూడా రెండో కమల్ ప్రజల మనసుల్లో, కుటుంబానికి మంచి మనిషిగా స్తానానిచ్చి ముగిస్తాడు. అదే కథ కాదు కానీ స్ఫూర్తి గా అలాంటి కథ తయారు చేశారు సురేష్ ప్రొడక్షన్స్,ఈవీవీ సత్యనారాయణ.
