Sick jalama hat! One of my favorite places in the world, maybe I’ve met y’all out there before! Locals all over Chiba were incredibly cool the three months I spent there. Even had some people take me out for lunch or show me their shop. And most surprising to me was my friend calling me to come sit at the peak on a crowded day and get some set waves, which has never been the vibe in my experience anywhere else. vibes were immaculate. Stoked to spend some time on Kyushu soon. Cheers, great video.

I've been living in Kumamoto, Japan (other side of Kyushu from Miyazaki) and I don't surf, but I enjoyed your talk about surfing and surfing culture. I play Japanese traditional music and have experienced many of the same things with regard to being someone different in a local place. Keep up with your content guys. I look forward to more.

Beautiful part of the world. I spent a week in Aoshima May last year surfing the beachies before my wife joined me and we drove down to Kagoshima. Really enjoyed the beaches and although swell was too small for Nichinan apart from a couple of spots, having Nichinan coast a short drive away is awesome. Love the NO SUP rule down there too 🤣

Ive been surfing Miyazaki every year from Oahu and will retire there. Surfing Japan is very different in a unique way. The best thing about surfing Miyazaki are the crowdless breaks. I’ve posted a few KZfaq vids surfing a few different spots in Japan and they have all been fun. I’ll be back beginning of this September for 3 weeks. Maybe see you in the water.

Where would be a good region to surf in July? Thanks!

July can be very slow all over japan unless a typhoon comes in. The rainy season wind and swell are not just working right. Stay tight until August or September. You will have some good chance surfing the huge waves generated by typhoons! Woooopapaaaaa

Hey guys, I'm going on an exchange year to Nagasaki next year. I was wondering how the waves are in Nagasaki? Also I saw that to go from Nagasaki to Miyazaki you have to go around the water so it takes around 5 hours... Is there really not a faster way to go to Miyazaki?

Hey man! Sorry for taking such a long time to reply. Your exchange program in Nagasaki sounds awesome! Unfortunately we don't have any personal experience on waves in Nagasaki, and we've never heard that waves are great out there.... As you researched, yes you have to take that long route to Miyazaki. The drive should be beautiful and enjoyable. Just take your time and think it's a road trip around Kyushu! Good luck!!

Im a jiji longboarder surfing here for a few years in chiba. The ojisan obasan gangs can really ratchet up the localism esp in the longboard scene. Commanding the takeoff zone, snaking each other, and yelling at people. Only way to get respect is to surf better than them. But, damn all those old farts surf really well lol. Its not as chill as when i was in hawaii. But, on the plus side i dont have to deal with uncles snaking every wave on a SUP.
