Surf Fishing Big Redfish on Dauphin Island, AL! (2020)

Beaches in Alabama reopened so I headed to my local beach on Dauphin Island, 30 minutes south of Mobile. I landed several large redfish (red drum) and missed many more. It ended up being my best day ever of surf fishing and one of my best days saltwater fishing!
I was using live shrimp as bait and putting them on pompano rigs, using a mix of steelhead and pike rods/reels. I'm new to the coast, honestly didn't even really know what I was doing, and got lucky!

My family have been to Dauphin Island many times. Love the island, the people and the fishing. Next year, I hope to catch some Red and Pompano! Great video and keep up the good work!

loved the video, I was watching because I leave in 2 days from Kentucky and I had to catch up on my surf fishing videos. Spent to much time fishing the lakes and river of Kentucky caught a lot of fish but time to mix it up a bit.

Good luck, I from the Great Lakes Region so I'm used to fishing freshwater as well. I got lucky and got into some nice reds that day. Fun part about fishing saltwater, anything can happen!

Nice video man, i live in irvington. We have some of the best fishing around, salt water and fresh water, its nice when you can go catch specks,reds and bass all in one trip

I believe you pretty well nailed it Cray! 3 nice redfish on the limited baits you had is a good afternoon. They are tough to catch on artificial when the water is that dingy, but I have some other tricks to show you ;-)

pretty cool you got redemption as far as surf fishing! i feel like the snook have to be up there for your best salt water days tho

Awesome man - sweet reds , iv'e tried but haven't had much success with reds in the surf , i'm taking a trip to the atlantic coast soon - hope i have half as much luck

Need a cooler full of ice blocks and water to get them cold. I searched that was around circa 29 Aug 2020. Were your shrimp alive or dead? I going there soon. What size hooks and you said steel head rod??? Thanks for the info.

If you get bored bottom fishing in that area try a bubble rig with a straw lure and rip it through the water. Thanks for sharing did not get to make it down this year.

Depends on the recent weather patters which depends on the year and time of year. I’d say that’s the water color at least 50% of the time on average.

Don’t put your rods that close together because I’ve had small black tips grab shrimp and tangle my lines super bad
