St Lucia is renowned for its fishing, Beauty and wildlife it has to offer.
surf launching at St, Lucia is easily done, but one must take note of surf conditions etc.
Normally bigger boats surf launch at St Lucia, but some days any boat can launch there.
The trick is to cross the sand bar safely.
It is easily doen, provided that the needed focus and care is taken.
we use a Seacat 565 fc which is a 18ft 6 inch size boat.
it is fitted with 2x 75hp yamaha 2 stroke engines.
it has 6x 25 liter fuel cans.
this combination is more then enough to safely cross the sandbar, but one must take care, not to overload the vessel with too many crew.
Too many crew will slow one down and a split second could land you quickly in trouble when the surf is up.
normal swell size is anything from 1,5 meters to 3,5 meters with a range of 8 seconds to 16 seconds.
so one needs to see the surf conditions before launching.
the St Lucia mouth is also currently open and as such on a outgoing tide, one can easily be swept into the oncoming surf as the water is draining from the st lucia estuary.
We have been launching for a couple of years at St Lucia, but we have been surf fishing the area for the last 28 years, so knowledge of the surf conditions are paramount for a safe and successful sandbar crossing.
at times one will cross the sandbar through the st lucia mouth which can also be hair raising at times.
St Lucia is still a great place and as such, it has the best Self catering holiday accommodation.
