Great work on the educational videos on how to read the breaks, it helped a lot. I have been many times to the Pacifica Coast with my family and very eager son to catch a surf perch but nothing but SKUNKS!! I hope to take this knowledge and turn it into catch and cooks! More vids like this please and head up north to the bay area, Marin, Sonoma, Medocino to join us up here.

Good info . My experience fishing surf I look for the start of a rip tide with a rip it pulls a lot of sand out exposing bait and steering up the bottom make a hole and I fish the out side of the tide. The other thing I look for is wave sets how long 10 to 15 sec between.
@Hook2Cook
@Hook2Cook 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the thoughtful response! That’s why fishing is so special. Conditions constantly change. One day to the next can be totally different. It’s really nice to find wave faces that come in really close pulling up lots of sand. It’s a dream. We didn’t see too much of that this day. We hit about 5 spots too. We’ll continue to do these types of videos. Maybe one of them we’ll see 10-15 seconds between waves. Can’t wait till spring. That can be totally optimal.
@davidrogers220
@davidrogers220 4 жыл бұрын
The other thing i like to do is fish the break water. What I mean is that dirty water the wave leaves behind when it crashes down and turns up the bottom. I fish that when it’s windy and sets are crazy

Excellent instruction. How many casts/how long do you usually stay at a spot before you move, due to lack of bites?
@Hook2Cook
@Hook2Cook 4 жыл бұрын
Depends. If absolutely 0 bites, 15 minutes max. Maybe a little less if it’s 2 anglers. When it’s two anglers you’re doubling the amount of casts into a spot and if there were fish in the area, they would’ve seen your lure already.

@Hook2Cook
@Hook2Cook 4 жыл бұрын
The wave action exposes the bottom contours. When you see the darker water surrounded by the foamy water, that’s a good place to start! Sometimes they aren’t where they “should be” but that’s why it’s fishing. Just bounce around and don’t stay in a spot if it’s not producing.

new sub here! great info on how to read the water, you make it look so easy! just came back from HMB this afternoon but the wind was running around 20mph from the NW, even a 3oz would veer off 45 degrees to the left because of the winds. What wind conditions do you have in the videos when you are casting the calissas? (0-5 mph?) Do you even recommend to try surf fishing when winds are 20mph+? TIA

Awesome! Welcome to the H2c Fam! Glad to have you aboard. The conditions are from 2-7mph Once it starts moving past 8mph it starts getting difficult for the calissa and it’s time to use a different technique. Best to really monitor what the wind is going to be like weekly and throughout the day. Some days are just impossible.

Okay to make it simple to understand of whatever you saying is, if there a deep spot at the beach, the waves won't produce sea foam right? So that's where most people will target to cast their lures or bait right?
@Hook2Cook

That’s accurate! To add to that, where the foam starts is the transition where the sand starts to build up and create a higher spot. This is also a great place to target as it creates natural lanes the fish use to move around. Great observation

Cover lots of water. Park and walk away as far as you can stand and work your way back to your car casting at every irregularity in the water. You’ll find them. Thanks for the support
